Hey All,

Heading up to Kingston this week and will be staying at the Ramada Hotel lakefront beside downtown Kingston.

Any good places to fish from shore in the area? Rent a rowboat? (I have no boaters license)... really looking to get out on the lake for a day so I don't mind rowing.

Please advise!

Know of a good spot to rent from?

Anyone know how the fishing is around the piers of downtown Kingston? (Princess Street).

Hey creekrunner, I work in Kingston quite often the last 2 years as our company obtained a contract at CFB Kingston. I haven't fished there yet so I can't tell you much, but I do plan on taking some gear with me next time, later this month I believe. What I can tell you is that from what I have seen on various fishing shows almost every type of fresh water gamefish can be caught in Lake Ont. and the St Lawerence there. The Cataraqui River also looks like it would be worth trying.

Staffman are you sure about this? I tried to rent a boat in the Soo last year and was refused until I went online and obtained my boaters card. I don't think the police would give you a pass because you were a renter.

Alfie.

Yes I am sure that you don't need a licence to rent a boat , however some renting boats may ask for one instead of taking the time to give you a short talk about safety. Go to the Ministry of Transportation web site and search for "Proof of Compency for pleasure craft", and the second last item deals with boat rental courses given by those renting boats,

isnt it just depentant on motor size? 9.9hp or less requires no license?

All boats powered by a motor of 9.9 or less do not have to be registered but unless you are renting it you need a boating licence to operate it.
