They were brought by the Duluth/Pacific Railway to the Border waters/Quetico Park area during the late 1800's.

Thanks.. They get pretty big in Quetico Park & along the edge of the Ontario/Minnesota Border basically in the banana belt where the Sugar Maples, Burr Oak & White Pine live.

the shape of that smallie is why they're called footballs. that might me be the most football shaped smallie i've ever seen. and the fins on it seem so big too.
