this is unfortunate. i fished two lakes last year close to erie. both had algae and one in particular had a thick layer of it around the entire perimeter and the lily pads. my weighted senko barely made it through that pea soup. but it didn't drop all the way because that nasty layer was preventing the line from dropping after the bait. it really hurt my chances.
locals i talked to said they had never seen it like this before and it totally messed up the fishing. this was in late august.
