First time fishing in 2008, on April 19, I went fishing with my son, we went to Lake Simcoe marina. Intention is just to come out on very nice day and to enjoy ourselves.
Directions:
Take Hwy 400 north, take exit # 75 to go east on Shore Access Rd , then go north on Rd 4 (11) to 4th Line, at the end of the street make turn on Ewart Street and then right on Isabella St.
Google map of the location : (for some reason I could not make it sharper)
We arrived there at around 9:15 Am, temperature was about 12-13 C with some wind from north, making it colder. Later on weather wormed up so it was really nice worm day.
This is a look on a dock from which we were fishing.
I did not know what kind of fish to expect this early in the season. I know last year at this spot you could catch some perch, rock bass, sunfish, also bass and pike. We were fishing using worms as bait , under the float. There were already about 6 people fishing and everybody was catching perch, perch and more perch, and nice size perch. Most perch caught was about 9 – 10 inches, but some larger perch (jumbo perch ) was being caught too. I was using worms, action was good but noticeable slower comparing with other guys who were fishing using small live minnow (about 2" or smaller). With small minnows, you absolutely had to catch fish almost every single time. Later on, one of the guys was leaving and he left us all bunch of minnows, after that – this was like fishing heaven, just fish after fish. It was just unbelievable. So if you like fishing for perch, this is a wonderful spot where is hard not to land fish.
Since perch is quite common, I am going to post just few photos of perch that we caught:
We stayed until about 4 PM, I did not count, but we must have caught at least 80 perch, brought just few home and the rest was released unharmed.
The biggest excitement of the day was when my son caught really nice size largemouth bass. He brought the fish just a foot or two from the dock but he needed a help. As I was coming to help him, one of the guys, in his excitement and desire to help, grabbed the fishing line wanting to pull the fish out, but the line snapped and fish was gone. I had a good look, i think fish was at least 4 or 5 Lb, I know bass is not in season now, but it would have been nice to have a photo with it. I’ll be sure to come her again, once season for bass opens.
