Usually at this time of year I head up to Simcoe for some fall fishing. I used to go up there many, many years ago with my brother(RIP-miss ya) for Pike fishing and tournaments but now it is just once or twice a year so I am a virtual novice when it comes to Simcoe.

Headed up on Thursday morning with my buddy Howie who also used to fish the lake in his younger days. So having little to no experience on the lake we were unsure of how much success we would have hunting smallies and pike. I was hunting smallies using tubes and cranks and he was hunting pike using minnows and cranks. Weather was great with some fog when we rolled out of Harry's in Keswick.

The first thing that amazed me was how clear the water was. We were in 14 FOW in Cooks Bay and could clearly see the bottom, WOW.

We spent a few hours trying lots of various lures and baits in various depths and had no success, not even a nibble.

Seems whenever I hit Simcoe the Police always roll up on us and check for all documents and safety equipment, never seen them once on Rice. So be safe out there.

Changed our gameplan and went after some perch. We caught over 100 with the biggest ones being 10". Kept about 40-50 for a fish fry and freezer.

It wasnt until the end of the day that I realized why we only caught Perch, it was because I had a true Maple Leafs fan in my boat.....lol He jinxed me.

Nonetheless, it was a great day. Hope to get out again before the season closes, hopefully with someone that has local knowledge and can put me on those beautiful Simcoe monster Smallies.

Nice haul of perch! I'm getting hungry now.

Could you possibly throw a map up of where you hit those perch? Thanks!

I see a roll of toilet paper!!!!

That was for blowing my nose. It was runny that day due to the cool conditions.

i would like to add the following though.....A few years ago I was playing golf at SILVER LAKES and I had to take a dump badly, so needless to say I had to use leaves to wipe. Ever since that day I always have a roll with me regardless of where I am. There is always one in my golf bag, always one in the car and always one on the boat. Mother nature is a mysterious creature and you just never know when you have to go.

That is probably more info then you wanted but if you don't believe the story just ask Dave Mercer about his Poppy Pants....he had to go into a minnow bucket.

Here is a map of where we were in Cooks Bay, near Gilford....

hahahaha
cool story

i have also heard the one from dave mercer. including the part where the other fishermen went to inspect this suspicious yellow minnow bucket floating in the water. They were in for a surprise hahahaha.

I was laughing when I first heard that story but then I thought, what bad conservation on his part to set a minnow bucket adrift, but then I guess someone wanted a free bait bucket. thats what you get...LMAO
