I went to Lebarons yesterday. What a dissapointment . the staff was rude and didnt carry any slammers. there reason was everyon else carrys them so were not! this was all said with so much attitude i couldnt believe it. tried to sell me something else but said whats the point if im going to go somewhere else and have to get it. gave him my basket full of stuff . an easy 200 dollars worth of stuff and said here keep it. on way out asked for lebaron fishing catalouge. they dont do it anymore that place has gone downhill so far its crazy!

I think we need to take FHLR with us each time we shop.... we can chip in on her gas and buy her a sandwich.... all agree? *bangs gavel*

:D

I've had nothing but excellent service there - both guns and fishing. Prices are also generally better.

Wayne is a great guy in the fishing department, John and Sasha great in the gunz.

My only one complaint... their website sucks ass.

:D Good ole' LeBarons.... reminds me of a story, sit won't you, grab a drink and listen...

back in the early 80s I was at the Toronto Sportsman's Show with girlfriend's father. I use to go every year and get the best price on 3 inch twisters then buy bulk for about 10 of us.... As we perused the aisles we stopped at LeBaron's and I proceeded to ask if they sold 1/4 oz jighead moulds.

The guy goes off for a moment and returns with a mould. I look at it closely, roll it around in my hands and then say to the clerk "This isn't a jig mould, it's an egg sinker mould."

The guy says "you are wrong, it's a jig head mould."

Now even in my early 20s I had a ton of experience and knew what i was looking at. I said "you wouldn't be trying to make a quick sale by taking advantage of me would you? This is a jighead mould."

He got really miffed and barked "WELL DO YOU WANT IT OR NOT??!!"

:D we walked :D

Now I have worked at the Sportsman's Show for two season decades ago for a local tackle dealer. I knew at the time how hard it was to get staff to man the booths so I figured this guy was someone's nephew hauled into service who may not have been a fisherman. And yes, at times the buying public can test one's nerves and patience.

Customer service used to be a big joke in this country and it has gotten better. Having said that I have had some horrific episodes over the years, two in the past decade, that astounded me how sales staff, even store owners, can poorly treat customers. In this day and age, with incredible electronic word-of-mouth like this forum, I am stunned at times how often that old motto "the customer knows best" is often thrown by the wayside.

cheers!

Good story! I wouldn't go to the sportsman show with my gf's father...

I don't subscribe to the 'customer knows best' adage. I mean how many times have you been in a store and heard the customer talking out of his ass to the clerk, like he's the pro and the clerk is some jibroni? I hear it all the time. Let's face it, most guys will never admit they don't know wtf they're talking about. My wife says it's built into our DNA.

There certainly are cases where some clerks/salespeople completely bullsh*t the customer (Futureshop comes to mind). This is truly a disservice and is exemplified by Dugger's story.

I think there is a medium of sorts, the customers are now much better informed thanks to the Internet, but I also think the respective stores/industries do a better job of training their front-line guys. Furthermore, gratuitous return policies mean clerks really want to put the right product in the customers hands to avoid return losses.

Here's a good example. I decided I wanted to get into pinning this year. I did some solid research and prepared my buy-list. Headed down to a small tackle shop (not Le Barons) and proceeded to pick out my stuff. The owner could of easily cashed me out, but he critiqued all the stuff I bought and pointed out (numerous) shortcomings in my selection of gear. He was right. On the other hand, I wasn't necessarily wrong, just not as right as he was.

I have to agree with you, I always get the pros at Bass Pro Shops/Any Tackle Retailer to go over all the stuff I'm buying.

I think Dugger is referring to Customer knows best when it comes to customer service, not necessarily knowledge.

I was even impressed with the -woman- at the ammunition counter. She knew ammo... She didn't have to look anything up or ask a co-worker.

I never had major problem with Lebaron. Their prices are better than BPro and Sails, and then they have additional 10% off for members. Last year on one flotation suit alone I saved ~100 compared to Basspro.
The only shortcomings are fewer choices compared to those big stores, crappy website, Sundays off schedule, and their gift cards that belong to stone age!
