I like the drennan for leader and the abrazx for shot line. My buddy uses seaguar red label and has no problems. Sail has the red label for a good price in the bigger spools. When steelheading I only use the drennan in short lengths from my shot line so 50 m lasts forever 2 feet at a time.

I am using 30lb PP braid, what pound test do you guys think I should get in the seaguar abrazx? And how about for the drennan (although I can't seem to find it where I live)?

30lp braid? Try switching to mono, 10lbs max 12lbs for salmon and/or trout. I love braid for bass and pike fishing, but not for salmon.

I was teaching my gf how to fish, so I gave her my 9'6 rod with spinning reel spooled with 40lb braid and 8lb leader. Braid sinks very fast and fish are spooked. I chucked some spoons with it, and had a float on, the braid spooked the fish more than mono.

People will argue what I said, but honestly for river fishing, mono is probably better.

If you are keen on using braid, use an 8lb leader with 15 braid. 8lb seaguar abrazx works well like I have stated and others agreed. I buy mine at Bass Pro, they also have drennan leaders there.

Hi Leaky,

Do you pinch split shots on your shot line? If so, how do manage not to have them all slide down after just a few casts? This is exactly why I use mono for shot line - due to its softness mono holds them in place way better than fluoro. But has always been wondering if there is a trick to get fluoro perform the same way?

or use the Dinsmore split shots, they have rubber in the split but they are expensive

Interesting suggestion, tried them few years ago, then switched to the Black Bird and never looked back, wanna stick with this vendor.

Scientific angler works well so does drennen and raven and seaguar keep all on hand they all have their positives and negatives and for you guys straighting hooks use bigger hooks its a myth you need to use small hooks size #6 #8 work great even in gin clear conditions

Your useing cheap weights if they slide that easy spend the money get softer weights well worth it

Spider wire fluoro-ez in 6 or 8lb for a leader and then down to raven fluorocarbon tippets in 4.8 and 5.6lb... The spider wire is super cheap and unless you are rubbing boulders, it won't break. The raven is expensive but defiantly worth the price

I use 4.4lb test redwing phantom fluoro...handled a 15lb salmon...took me about 8 minutes to land it without a problem. and not very visible and also cheap.

i like the sea guar 8 pound, its strong but the only draw back is knots tend to slip if arnt since down properly
