How heavy a leader should one use for creek fishing? I was trying 6lb-test monofilament and it snaps everytime hook a salmon. My main line is a 14 lb fluoro...

I guess you should adjust the drag and use a proper rod. I have landed 25 lb Salmon on 8 lb test line monofil, no problem.

I've been too lazy to change my line from 6lbs and ive been pulling salmon out on that line, its all about the rod tbh

I'm running 8lb stren mono with a 6lb south bend leader on my pin.Keep in mind I use a micro swivel just above my float(prevents line twist) on the 8lb and another micro swivel attaching the 6lb to the eight pound. Line strength seems adequate, and also prevents me loosing my float and bb weights every time I get snagged .I only lose my hook.

I'm using 6lb leader on my fly line with a swivel, not a micro one connecting my 6lb to my fly line, if i ever get a salmon on would that sufficient as well or should i bump up? lol.

I'm not so sure on a fly rod/line. With a float rod, mine being 11'6" long and ultra lite the rod works as a shock absorber letting you run small diameter line in clear water.
Also the micro swivels I'm using are 30lb test.Unbelievable, made by mustad.

sayan,I agree with float drifter and staffman, maybe up size your leader to 10lb.Depending on what reel and rod your using,if your drag is not set perfect you don't have much of a chance landing one with 6lb.
When using my spinning reel with lures for salmon I personally like the 8/30 red power pro line. Gives you time to adjust your drag without breaking your line.

appreciate the advice...i probably gotta use a heavier leader or loosen up the drag when no ones around fishing with me.... until i get a longer rod.

it also depends on the spot you are fishing, if there are nice long stretches of river around then the light 6lb will work fine if you have the drag set right and a long rod. But if there are obstructions around causing you to horse the fish every now and then heavier leader is beneficial. I was fishing around some fallen trees yesterday and after breaking off my first two I ended up attaching to my 10lb mainline and broke off two more lol. It was just heartbreaking when they would go for a hard sudden run right behind a big tree and then I would just hear a loud SNAP and the fish was gone. At some points I would hold my pin so that no line could come out to turn the fish around, I was able to do that with both my 8lb fluro leader and with the 10lb straight mainline setups. It was odd, for fresh fish they seemed to be very cooperative at some points...until they decided they were going a certain direction no matter what.
