does that mean i hold the rod with left hand? or right hand and left does the reeling? the latter would make sense but after buying 180 dollars worth of fake grasshoppers nothing makes sense anymore lol

fly reels can be switched back and forth. left hand means you reel with left hand.

efka is right most reels can be switched from left to right hand retrive there are a few models that cant be but those are hardy and are not cheap so dont worry about that why do you ask

I'm right handed. I cast with the right hand, hold the rod there and retrieve/reel with my left hand. Just makes sense to me... I see some guys cast then switch over to retrieve or reel - why? When trolling, left hand on the motor, right hand on the rod. left hand quickly to the reel from the tiller.

I couldn't switch over ether doesn't make sence to me espicaly when dry fly fishing you would lose fish if you did that

i reel with my left hand holding with my right---i see people switch--to me an uneccesary movement...my rod stays in my right hand right down to the wire.and the loop reel i am looking at does not convert--thats why i asked.

Yes you should it can hold more backing then you Spey with witch is longer then a normal fly line you will be better off going with an larger reel

I just bought a fly reel for ice fishing and it appears that it is set up for a right hand retrieve when I typically do a left hand retrieve. I was going to remove the drag for ice fishing but the drag is really quick to turn on and off so I was thinking I might leave it in. How exactly do you switch the drag? This reel was a low cost ebay reel so unfortunately the only packaging was some bubble rap and the shipping envelope - no manual.

Left hand retrieve, you use your left hand for reeling, right hand for the rod. Opposite for the right hand retrieve.
