In a recent issue of Ontario Out of Doors, in the Humor pge (last page), I was reading how sometimes a little kid with basic gear outfishes the well equipped and aged fishermen! Today I observed that.
Went to a after-work fishing from 5 to 7. There were 4 guys fully geard up ofishing this pool loaded with rainbow. Nobody was catching untl this 9-10 yr old kid came and started dropping his line in. Everybody looked at him like "really?". And lo and behold he hooked one, that spit the hook out after 1 min fight. 5 minutes later, again he goes! and landed this one. Again another and finally a 4th one!!! He did amaze everyone. I asked what he used and he said some roe bag a guy gave him. once I helped him unhook a fish and noticed his leader line was very thin (3 lb perhaps). He said he scavenged the line off a tree ). I guess a good comibination of line and fresh roe guranteed his success
It was so fun to see him outfishing everybody (actually nobody caught while I was there) and feeling proud. He did not have anything except his rod and a ziplock of roe bags. I gave him my scissor to cut the roe bags off the hook, when I was leaving so he could continue slamming them. He did release all fish!
lessons for us mature fishermen to learn!
