Line Twist

Just had my centre pin respooled - Siglon line - First day out and it was twisted like crazy. I run a pretty conventional setup: main line with float and shots to a swivel with leader. I can Wallis cast short to medium range, but need to revert to side- casting for longer casts.
I know this has been debated a bit in another thread, but what is the main cause of the twisting, and how can it be alleviated, if not eliminated???
A) Is it the float, or the split shot on the main line ( if so, would a shot line help)?
B) Is it my casting action (ie. is there a "better" way to sidecast)?
C) Would braid be a better alternative to mono (or does braid's lack of stretch make my rod more vulnerable to tip breakage)?
D) Should I just suck it up, remove all my terminal tackle once or twice per outing, and let the line unravel itself in the current?

i think its the float, the only fix woulld be a swivel above it which would limit your depth choices

i would go and blame your line. i only side cast and extremely rarely get crazy line twists. good casts helps though. line twists happen anyway, specially if you keep catching big fish and stretching your line. also i noticed more twists with lighter lines/small diameters. if you are hardcore, every fishing trip cut 10-15 yards of line and re spool every 15 outings. second option is go to a shallow stretch of water and take your hook off and let your float go down stream for 20 yards. then slowly retrieve it up stream directly front of you, and that should help untwist the line more.
siglon F is expensive and very thin diameter, use a cheaper line if you want, hi vis is over rated for CP imo. whole point of a cp is for your float to unwind your spool as soon as it hits the water. mind you that only happens with top end reels as they have better start-up inertia. braid will destroy your guides on a noodle rod from what i understood, and make it unfishable in anything under 0 degree temperature as the whole line freezes like an icicle. plus the fact braided lines are meant for sinking, and you want your line to float as best as it can.

It may been the way the line was put on,the way you cast or the type of line you have chosen to spool up with. When you get a fresh spool of line you will notice it is inherently limp. When I spool up, I line up the new spool of line the same way my centrpin is. The line from the new spool should come off just the way the line comes off your reel. So basically I am reeling in the line as it actually went on in the factory. Super limp.

Tried Siglon F hi- vis and hated it in fact never caught anything on it and got rid of it first chance. Went back to Sufix pro mix

suffix promix is a great line, i have it on my cp. too bad it was so expensive to make and the colour was very unpopular, so they stopped making it. the two new lines they make are so garbage though. tried it at the sportsmen show, and it was like wire. and it is suppose to be what replaces the promix for float fishing, it might float but it is not limp like promix. looked like curly fries on first cast.

Take offyour float, shot swivel etc, go to a fast run, let out 100 feet of line with the current, reel it back in. That should take care of your line twist issue. If it doesn't, it's crap line. Replace it with trilene XL or maxima of something to that effect. Good luck!

Double swivel ant try braid !!! I use braid and I love it Berkeley nano flex and use floro shot line

Promix is a good line but until the temps go down I use fireline crystal. It is a fused braid so the line does not saok up water and there is no line twist. I mostly side cast and use a shot line. Everything goes on the shot line, so i have not many floats.

What pound test is your fireline and your shot line?

I thin the fireline is 12 or 14 the shot is XT 6lb to slide the float and shot up or down.

Swivel above the float will take care if the line twist. Save your money and use ande mono, great diameter and has a great winter break strength. $8.99 will fill your pin twice. Cant go wrong with that. I used 8lb mono and 6lb drennan on the Lake "O" Chinny's and never lost a float.

This is another option too. I run the swivel above the promix when the temps drop.
Only issue is to watch the top swivel it can do some damage to the top guide.

i just remembered, i used to use this mustad super expensive swivels, they are triple bearing swivels. that helps a lot also. they come to 60 or more cents per, but worth every penny.

@buck, it all depends what the diameters are. i use .010inch or (0.28mm) of my fave main line which is known for being rather thin for 10lb line and i can easily use drennan 6 at (0.24mm) which i am going to buy in few days to try it out. i currently use raven 6.8lb @ 0.24mm .009inch without any issues.
