It ain't much of a use if you can't reach down to the water to scoop up that fish eh ? I also think that it cause major pain to the fish. Especially bigger fish. As you've seen from a lot of salmon photos. People like to hold the salmon by the gill and hold it up... can you imagine the pain/stress put on to that gill? which gotta hold it's own body weight? Maybe that is why some of my catch can't be revived.
