i was wondering what kind of structure/areas that you guys are finding your winter river carp on?

im on the St.Lawrence river and dont really target them in the winter... but i think im missing out on an opportunity to catch some big fish...and lots of them...

from what ive read i think i should be starting on shallow current breaks with rocky bottoms... does this sound right? or should i be looking for the steepest drops from shore to deep water? or should they be where they were in october/november?

i know the st.lawrence is a bit different then the smaller rivers around toronto and hamilton that produce winter carp... but where they hold should be similar...

if you guys are getting em in the deepest pools of the river...then thats where i can start...

anyways... any help would be appreciated...

thanks

mike

The St. Lawrence is a big place.
There seems to be some general factors in finding winter carp. I am no expert at it. I would look for slack water areas that get good exposure to the sun. There is a reason carp turn very dark in winter. I don't think deep water is where you want to look. A weed bed nearby seems to also be a factor. Hope this helps.

thanx....

most carp anglers just wait for the carp to move into the spots they like to fish...

with the winter we just had... the st.lawrence is wide open... and i have plenty of options for spots to fish...

i dont wanna wait for them to come to me... i wanna find them.... and from what ive read... if i find a winter holding spot.... the numbers of carp schooled up together can be in the hundreds....or just a couple...lol

as for weeds... most of the weeds in the river die off and break away because of the heavy current... the weed beds turn into sand flats...

thanks...
