Looking to buy a float rod and center pin reel (first one). looking for a 10.5 or 11.5 in length. New or used. anyone have anything?? or any suggestions? I will purchase items seperately if someone is looking at selling either item..
Thanks!

I have a Fenwick 12' 6" rod I would be willing to part with $70 BNIB was $130+tax.

Let me know
Jay

Stream side has a very affordable and quality line of rods and reels that would be great for a starter set up you can have a rod and reel for under 250 new

Jay, thanks for the offer, I will strongly consider that option.
W-boughner, thanks for the new store. I've never been.. I hit up places like anglers outfitters in Woodstock and Fishing World in Hamilton.

I'm not trying to get into a $400 set up off the hop. I could go up to $200 i guess.. The only reason I say 10.5 to 11.5 is so I can use it in smaller streams the 13 or 14 footers are a little tougher in that area.. typically I fish there as I live in Brantford.. open to ideas.. thanks.. would a 13 footer be a good one for my first float?

This kinda fishing with longer rods requires alot of finesse. I would suggest starting to learn on something shorter. Like 8-10' with a medium action. I can say I have seen tons of newbies turn a small knot into a birds nest just bc of the way the tip of the rod moves. I am not sure of your level of expirence so don't take any offence to this.

But If you are fishing smaller streams and what not 10' would even be too long.

I've been using my buddies 10 and a half which has worked out well for me. no nests.. I am fully equipped but he doesnt want to part with his gear, which is understandable. he typically uses his 14 ft'er it the lager water and breaks down to his 10.5 when we hit the streams. No offence taken Jay.. its all good.. just trying to get my own first float rod kinda like a hybrid.. one for lager rivers and also smaller streams.

Picl up Ijay's rod for 70 and go to LeBaron and pick up a Rapala Classic Drifter for 153 and your close to your target with all new stuff.

streamside is a brand not a store I know my cousin has them in his store (Kingsway) in Guelph but I don't know where you can get them on the gta .. I'm sure some local tackle shops will have some

That first link I am sure its etackle.ca great guys and good deals.

The second one OMG thats an insane deal

LOL! I sent him a messege. I am sure I would keep the reel and sell or keep the rod for visitors LOL!

Yessir, first year with it. I am still learning the techinique and ironing out some wrinkles while in practise.

Thru all of my fishing expirences hooking a fish on the pin has been by far the best feeling. A raw fight beween you and the fish, you control the drag and you need to feel out the fish, the line you have to read into the fight.

Thru another board member I got an Okuma Aventa vt1002
I can say I love it, I am still trying how to learn to distance cast properly, I was able to see a couple guys at the Credit last weekend. I mimiced what I saw and found a bit of success, just not profficent yet!

I have been float fishing all my life, just with a spinning reel. Its alot easier but moving into a pin is definatly the evolutionary process in float fishing. Longer drifts, more control of the line. Almost learning to drive on an automatic car but then learning stick. Its still driving but its alot more of an "in control/hands on" feel.
