If you treat your reel right it will last you for ever, Buy once Buy Right. You wouldn't buy a crappy house just because it's cheaper, because every time you cam home you would regret it.

NANO, Hang in there for a while. I just negotiated with this new ebay seller from UK . His shipping cost is just 7pound($11). I offered him 35 pound($55) for the Marco cortesi Reel, and told him I will promote him on our fishing site.

The other company that sells this reel for 30 pound does not want to ship to North America. Other reseller in UK have expensive shipping cost to North America of 12 pound($19) and sells the reel for 45 pound($71) at least .

This Marco Cortesi or Ikonix reel has excellent write up everywhere on line in UK. Claim to spin for at least 2 minutes. Few anglers from OOD fishing board already got them. Very popular in UK, many UK anglers have high standard then North Americans since they invented the centerpin close to 100 years ago. They also do not consume as much as North Americans and would rather pay something that is good quality that last. If you google Ebay UK for centerpin reel, they have tons of antique ones that are still circulating and collectables. To be able to fish in Europe is so expensive.

Baitcasting reel used to be expensive, not anymore either. Once more competitor from China comes out with Centerpin Reel, price will drop further and quality will rise. Almost most mid range shimano and Daiwa spinning reel close to $150 price are made in China these days. They do produce good quality, since their middle class are growing, more demand for quality product ,and more choices and more competition. Mercedez Benz used to be produce in Germany and cost so expensive. Now the car is more affordable since they are made in North America. Do most people want to pay for a Mercedez Benz made in Germany for a more higher price, I don't think so!

I heard china is coming out with a $10,000 4x4, while Mexico has a 3 cylinder car for $2000, they are all being approved for safety, before being shipped to North America. Many North Americans used of make fun of Japan and Honda, when they came out with their 3 cylinder gas efficient car in 1971. Honda was bad mouthed by some media as being too cheaply made, too small, unsafe, un-tested, and un-American. Until the consumer loved it, due to its price and being gas efficient, they lined up for it, waited for a year just to get their car.

For now , Centerpin reel will be more affordable and accessible to everyone , not just for the ELITE. I would not have gotten into baticasting or centerpining if they are not affordable to begin with. I also want to own few affordable inexpensive reel for variety , rather than one expensive one. For those who hate China for taking many of our business. Since the recession, American demand for our Canadian products had dropped, What saved our economy? Canadians start selling more of our oil, lumber and precious minerals to China. Many Immigrants in turn have also invested their money here in Canada, one reason our property, currency and stock market never devaluated.

I agree with every word you said, Fishfight. China can easily build whatever quality the market is willling to pay for. If we ask them for 'cheap' parts, that's exactly what they build for us.

Anyway, I just received my Ikonix last week. I absolutely LOVE it. Not to mention the savings!! Landed price for me was around $82 CAD. The reel spins very good. Much better than the Ukrainian one... However, it does have a very slight wobble. Again, very sligth... If I compare it to the next reel up in price (Okuma Aventa at $180 or so CAD), I recommend this reel to everyone looking to get into centerpining economically. Let's face it, we all have other responsibilities that are more important then a fishing reel. As much as I'd llike to spend 750 dollars on a "brand name", I am very aware that the fish on the hook does not care what kind of reel is on the other side of the line.

I have been asked by a few folks "how long does it (ikonix) spin for?"

I never timed it but let's just say it spins long enough to empty out your (300 yds) spool completely.

What i wanna know is what makes a $700 reel worth $700. In the past before CNC machining i'm sure they would have taken a very long time to make, but with today's technology what makes it worth that much? Im just having an argument with my buddy and I was hoping somebody might be able to shed some light on the process of making a high end center pin reel.

Main difference between a $750 reel and $75 reel is the wages for the over-paid union worker, unheard of bonuses for the company CEO / CFO / and many other managers, unrealistic overhead expenses and greed of large corporations vs. a low-cost country taking advantage of unfair labour laws to generate jobs.

Personally, I have no issue supporting an underprevilaged / unskilled worker trying to make a living to bring himself above the poverty line. Unfair work conditions are better than no work anyday. Ask a father who's not able to put food in front of his child at dinner.

Enough of my thoughts.... back to the reel: I took the reel to Bass Pro yesterday. There were two employees in the flyshop who saw/played with the reel. They could not believe the quality of the reel for the price. They both are planning on ordering for themselves.

I do not know where you found the info on a pin that only spin for only 3-4 seconds. Even a round wood on a stick at the middle would spin longer than that! So many people had bought it, the ebay seller would have been shut down if they sell fraudulent product. It is my first Pin , it spins for close to a minute, I loved it, for the price and the way line comes out on slow moving current. The Reel is the least you have to worry about, Rod, casting, type of float/splitshot balancing, knowing where to fish are even more challenging issues in life. The proper main line and proper backing are all to consider in your additional budget getting into centerpining.

Having a Pin will not make one better than what he is right now, I would say initial owning a pin temporary stop me from catching a fish. One thing Centerpining gave me was an attitude to want to learn something new, to study its technology, and the discipline to practice casting for distance that I have to commit to be good at it in the long term. Having good fishing equipment is only as good as the angler! Tiger Wood still uses couple of old technology Aluminum shaft Iron for the flex! Roger Federer's Tennis rackets is identical to Pete Sampras racket(10 year old technology) , but re-painted with the new design every two years, pretending he is changing racket model.

I cannot give you any other advice, Nado , you are indecisive in nature, a Doubting Thomas! Still.................... Thomas did made a decision that he did not believe, and change his mind down the road!

Islander Reel are the best, save up so you can buy them down the road! Life is not complicated! If money is not an issue for me, I would defintely grab an Islander as my reel , and a Mercedez Benz as my vehicle, for the quality and image!

Don't lose sleep on being indecisive for just a float reel! There are more important decisions to be made in life. We all have to move on!

Being competitive in Tennis, proper excercise, proper dieting, hours of practice are important to win tournaments. I stopped drinking softdrink for almost 15 years, now, so does my two teenager were raised not to consume softdrink since they were born. I have enough money saved up to buy more fishing equipment or the stamina to hike on any river system.

Well no need to lose sleep anymore...i found the deal of a lifetime. Okuma sheffield reel and 13.5 foot sheffield rod with hard case, line and backing on reel, only used 3 times they look brand new...for $175 on kijiji!!!!!!!!!

I would say the wait was worth it, the rod is rediculously long tho lol its gonna take some getting used to.

Are you sure it spun for a minute? I was just looking at the video u posted on photobucket.
