Hey Guys,
Second post on the forums.
I'm new to GTA as far as fishing goes. Born and raised in Parry Sound, on Georgian bay and lake Wawashkesh. I would LOVE to get in to a salmon and have spent hours reading up on these forums getting psyched!
I bought a 9 foot-med action rod for hucking these glow in the dark spoons everyone is raving about and slapped my trusty musky reel (good for casting, 300 yard line capacity) on with some nice light line on her. That, plus a stack of glowing spoons and a glow in the dark "mile high" jerk bait I have sounds like it will get me started.
I am monitoring the water levels (not looking good right now), watching Lake O temperatures and keeping an eye on the weather forecast (also not looking good right now...).
I had never been to the Credit but figured if I am going to give pier fishing a try I should check it out in daylight first. I have gone down there twice just to "test fish" in the middle of the day, trying different spots from the pier to the park and up past the lakeshore bridge. (actually hauled a few decent smallies out in the process.)
I like being on the park side near the mouth, but because of the mud I cant really get a good idea of depth contours out there.
Anyways, I have a few questions.
Does anyone know what the bottom looks like across the mouth?
Do you prefer to fish from the pier or the park?
I know that obviously after they pass the mouth they dont stop, but how far up the river would you stray on any given night expecting to get salmon until the run is in full force?
Once the run is going, ie. a few weeks from now, am I safe to explore up the river and should I stick to the smaller casting spoons when I do so?
I hope these are appropriate questions and yes I WILL be bringing a net, haha.
