hi everyone, i m new to the forum and fishing. what type of lures or baits should i use to catch bass in weedy areas??

If it is thick lilly pads I would use any frogs made by Bobby B. Tie them to braided line like PowerPro and hang on. I recommend at least 50 lb if it is thick stuff. If it is just thick weeds I'd use a Texas rigged Senko or drop shot a Slammer in the pockets.

Depends on what you mean by weedy. usually underwater vegetation a couple feet below the surface can be a great place to throw a spinner bait/top water popper. Spinner baits will cut through some very thick hydros, and top water sticks/poppers etc will keep the bait high enough to not get snagged, and attract a lot of attention doing so.

If your talking about thick, matted weeds, lily pads, etc. Senkos and Frogs hands down. I like to have 2 rods ready for this. I usually run either a SPRO or Tru Tungsten frog slowly cross the pads and weeds. Always stop at an opening for a few seconds before continuing your retrieve. Bass train reck these guys like no tomorrow. Often times however, they will miss, or you will fail to get a proper hook set. This is when i take the Senko and drop it right into that same opening. 3/4 times that bass is going to take it.

Good Fishing!

I like to jig gulp black magic gobies on a weedless hook with the spring at the head(kind that your screw the plastic's on to) this way they can just rip through the weeds very easily and the bass hit them like crazy. If its lilly pads or too dense for a weedless hook then the top water is the only way to go in my opinion. I have been trying the yum frogs but havent had to much luck.....if the top is clear enough for a jitterbug that would be my first choice but with the treble hook hanging down in the water there needs to be a clearing for the top 3 inches of the water so your not getting weeds hooked left and right. If the weeds arent too too bad then try the old spinnerbaits they work well for bass and pike and can handle some weeds as well....anything with treble hooks are going to have a hard time with big weeds so stick to the single hooks, weedless and top water.
