So I am currently living in Markham Ontario, and I love fishing for carp when not fishing tournaments for bass or pike. Where can I in Markham just grab a rod grab a simple bait and go fish for some carp? Also, is Toogood pond or Milne Dam any good this year? One last thing if anyone wants to shed some knowledge on making a dough bait such as cornmeal and is buying Gulp baits from Berkley any good?

Hello and welcome. Stay away from the Berkley carp baits , they suck. I am not from Markham so I can't help you there. There a section here where you can find ponds to fish in your area. There is about a zillion recipes for dough/paste baits for carp. Here is a simple one.
1 cup flour
1 cup oatmeal
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup sugar
2 cups of water
Add any flavour you like. Vanilla, strawberry koolaid, and anise are used a lot.
Mix it all together in a microwavable bowl.
Zap it for a couple of minutes and check it. Zap it some more until it is cooked. Let it cool and go fishing.
Good Luck and please post up some pics for us to admire when you catch some.

So I took the venture to Milne at the actual dam from Princess Street. No luck there but the carp were just moving on top of the water here and there. I stopped by Toogood pond to take a look at the mouth of the river and saw about 4 people fishing there. One gentleman was using the whole British Styled setup for the carp tournaments they have. Needless to say I stood there and watched for 10 minutes before I did anything and decided to just call it for the day and grab a beer on main street aha. I plan on going back to toogood pond tonight as I work as a bouncer at jakes on main street so after work I will test my luck again. Also, I took a short trip to a secret spot near my house for some crappie/pike and here was the outcome.

Also wanted to add, the set up I chose today was a simple heavy bell weight on my line with about 4 inches between my treble hook(size 4) with a coil around it allowing my dough bait to stay on the hook properly. Was this setup decent for catching carp or can this be dangerous as well? Also, am I allowed more than 1 line in the water when fishing for carp? I came by a person at Milne Dam using 5 rods and was not sure about rods per person fishing for carp. If anyone knows rules for that please let me know. This way next time I go I will be sure to report someone using too many rods. Just not fair when 1 person takes up a whole bank to himself.

[font="Univers LT Std 57 Cn][font="Univers LT Std 57 Cn][size="1"]Hooks and Lines – An angler may use only one line, unless otherwise stated in the regulations. Two lines may be used when angling from a boat in parts of the Great Lakes (see exceptions to the general regulations) and for ice fishing in many areas (see Ice Fishing, page 11). A fishing line must not have more than four hooks attached.

Hook – A hook includes a single-pointed or multiple-pointed hook on a common shaft but does not include a snagger or spring gaff. The number of hooks includes any single-pointed or multiple-pointed hooks that are part of a lure.

* You can bring 10 rods if you want. Can only have 1 in the water at one time - Four hooks max.

Thank you so much! Yea now if I see that person again with multiple rods I will be reporting that for sure. Last night I tried my luck at Toogood Pond after work around 2:45 am and no luck. All i saw was a beaver that was swimming across the water that had touched my line but thankfully did not snag on and a few carp rolling on top of the water. Spent about 3 hours there but hey that is fishing aha.

I think I saw the same guy (multiple lines) at milne last year. But saw only 3 casted and he was sitting on a folding chair. still need to learn more about the laws regarding multi lines so didn't really say anything. but next time I see him, should I report right away or just let him know about laws on multi lines?

have you not tried fishing for the carp on the surface? its a killer method!

I usually like to give the person the benefit of the doubt and tell them that they are doing something illeagal. Their response is a guide to what I would do next....
