This is my first fishing report. On May 31 & June 1, 2008. I went fishing for channel catfish in Dunnville with halleb. We arrived there at around 8 pm and we started fishing around 8:30. We decided to check out the area as reported by uglyfish earlier in this forum
We fished in front of Fishmasters bait and tackle, 776 Main street east. Dunnville, ont.

It was nice Saturday night, bit windy but manageable, temperature around 18 C. Sunday it was overcast and very, windy – very tough conditions to fish. We were casting about 25-30 meters from shore. I was using Zebco ProStaff (reinforced graphite) medium action 6’6†long rod, Zebco reel, 25lb braided line, 15 lb leader and 1.0 Eagle hook. Halleb
Was using his 3,6 m telescopic rod , 40 lb line, 15 lb leader, and and 1.0 Eagle hook
Since fishmaster ran out of cutbaits , we fished using large worms (2 on one hook) and small minnows.
At round 10 o’clock I hooked my first fish, it was a channel cat and it was at least between 10-15 pounds. Unfortunately when we brought it too the surface we were just about to pick it up with the net when it made a sharp movement and broke the line. An hour after that we got another bite I caught another channel catfish except it broke the line about 3 meters from shore. We were getting some small nibbles and then Halleb caught two small channel catfish. These were his first ever Channel Catfish.
Here is the picture of one of his small catfish
At about 2 am we decided to call it quits and we went to sleep in the car. We had taken out the seats in our van and we placed an air mattress and two sleeping bags in there and it was really nice sleeping there.
The next day we started late at around 9 o’clock. First thing in the morning, halleb went to the fishmaster shop to meet and talk with uglyfish. He picked up some useful tips and trick, bought some stuff and met very nice guy – uglyfish.
Here is our set up:
First cast of Sunday Halleb catches a VERY nice Freshwater Drum weighing in about 5 lb. It gave a good fight. Unfortunately, we forgot to take a picture of this one. However, later on in the day we got another bite. A big bite. A channel catfish. After a nice battle, we took a nice channel catfish out of the water. Weighing in at 14 pounds and 29,5 inches long it was a fairly nice catfish.
This is me, holding this catfish.
I did not have much luck with channel catfish but I caught some out of season bass (one smallmouth, one largemouth), rock bass, silver bass.
We took some pictures and then we released it back into the water.
After that we left at round 2 o’clock and went to a local pond to fool around with some pan fish. I managed to catch a small carp (no big deal so no photo taken) and overall it was a fun day.
For bait on Sunday when we caught the channel catfish we used cut bait ( I caught small rock bass which we turned into cut bait) . For the catfish on Saturday we used one or two worms on the hook and a minnow. For the Freshwater Drum we used worms. For the bass we also used worms.
Special thanks to Uglyfish for giving us the location of this place and some tips he gave
