Up here we have seen almost no melt at all over the last few weeks. The rain and short period of higher temperatures pushed river levers up a mere few inches. Many snowbanks are still over my head with the ominous 10+ foot banks peppered all over grey and bruce still mostly unchanged. The rivers I drove by yesterday and this weekend where all almost entirely locked up with thick river ice, not thin broken sheets. Uniform solid unbroken ice, probably still very thick in spots. From the mouth to way up river this is all I observed. With the stretch of warm weather in the forecast this combination could be extreme. The risk of flooding is becoming higher in prone areas. I have also heard it mentioned the river ice is going to build up in the mouth because much of the lake is still iced up, one report said the lake was still somewhere around 70% covered still.

Winter seems to be at last releasing is grasp and its gunna be a show!

Its gonna get wild if it the thaw happens fast. You could be right about ice piling up at rivers mouths from all the ice out on the lake... I could barely drill through the ice fish off a huron trib a couple weeks ago it was that thick....

Ya it's not looking good for you guys, something tells me we aren't going to be too bad but it'll definitely be interesting.

do be safe, 10ft banks and warm weather can only mean people getting like buried alive lol its not that extreme but still, watch out for those

atleast the fish will stay in the river system longer compared to the past 2 years when opener hit all I was getting where drop back

The thaw will be starting next week and its gonna hit hard. Water is gonna rise like crazy. So get swinging while you can. Gonna be a little while before things are back to normal.
