yesterday i witnessed something that outraged me as a fish angler....a conservationist....and a ontario fishing sport licience holder
i could not sleep last night
today i called the mnr tip hotline to make a report
justice will be swift from the response i got over the phone
the toronto news papers may be reporting something this week i would expect
the crimes i witnessed hurt people, fish, and hundreds of thousands of dollars damage to lake ontario fishing
the crimes have been going on for 20 years
this week it better stop
if the mnr can not stop it .....i have another government solution
if that does not work....i may be going to jail.
i will keep you posted....i will disclose more after the arrests have been made.

Don't get yourself killed over some fish, but seeing as how it can hurt people I'm assuming some sort of illegal dumping? Second guess would be someone put out a net to catch as many fish as possible.

what was it?? I have not bumped into much illegal stuff except last week a guy taking some 7-8 bows home,. He pulled out his stringer out of water, ran to his car and ...gone. Interesting is that I had seen him before! I wonder what he'd do with all that fish

man shouda followed him to the car wrote hes license plate down and called mnr.

Thought about that actually but then I was not sure if it would make a case if they do not see him on the scene.? The MNR does not investigative work I believe so if they see the illegal act on the scene they can act otherwise I doub they'd go to his place and investigate how many fish he took home.

i read on some other forums that a guy wrote down their plate, called the CO, he tracked them down and fined them on the spot. Then again its a story i read i dont know if its true or not. We gotta watch out for these lunatics i almost got into a fight last year, it just ticks me off how some people just done care.

the mnr are still investigating the situation.
i live in toronto....in the downtown
found out that a supermarket with a large fish section was illegally fishing (netting during spawning) in lake ontario
and simcoe and then storing the fish to sell later...ie right now.
so i investigated to find that they have an in store tank with...lg mouth bass, sm mouth bass, carp, sheep head, bowfin.
also rainbow trout but that could be farmed...so could the carp.
in the tank there were 20plus of each species.....
bowfin???now really...they are hard to cook...do not taste good and are the most contaminated with harmful chemicals
of all the above fish.....
so i asked the fish mongers what kinda fish they were...i asked about the other fish...no answer...montioned to leave the store.
i work in kesington market so i go and ask the fih mongers there about what i heard and saw...they confirmed this is happening
i will finish the story later...i gotta go back to work

licensetopin....to clarify...the market is not in kesington but nearby...i was asking the kesington fish mongers to confirm or correct my findings
lapalette eh? do you know guna, jay, kugan they work with me at my restaurants
back to the fish mess....2nd time i am writing this it errored in loading last time
catching fish out of season is illegal
catching fish with nets this way is illegal
holding live fish the way they are being held (large quantities in too small an area..not sufficient airation) is illegal
selling fish commercially that they do not have a commercial license for is illegal
selling fish as something else ie a bowfin as a snakehead or tropical fish....or wild carp as farmed is illegal
selling fish as food that have not been inspectedby food inspectors or being stored in an uninspected holding facility is illegal
selling fish that are contaminated with mercury, pcb's, lead...etc. as fish from a more healthy enviroment is illegal
selling contaminated fish for eating to persons who are feeding it to children and pregnant women is immoral
bottom feeding and dwelling fish are not even dealt with in the guide to eating ontario sport fish...cause they are an absolute no go.
birth defects and child deformaties and stunted growth are immoral if caused by a criminal act....lawsuits ...compensation????
still waiting for justice
health dept will be contacted next
our lake ontario and simcoe fisheries are too fragile to have commercial fishing exploiting them in this way.....

I had heard that too. Not quite like this, but that people catch their limit and sometimes eceed that (like the guy with 7-8 bows I mentioned) and sell them to the YYYY stores that are like fish market. One was saying that they even hire people to do that so a guy may catch his limit, discharge it at the store, come back later, ...I had no reason to believe it but it may all make sense.

dec 06
mnr got another call
i was going home stopped in to see the fish
this time they had a bunch of american eel....a protected endangered species of fish
grass carp dead and alive....and labeled dead as grass carp...invasive species
both the eel and grass carp are illegal to have....
on the phone with the mnr i was put on hold to be passed to a senior supervisor
the file was updated...investigation is on going....
the fishes will have their day in court ......let's hope.

Are you planning on following up with the mnr to check on the outcome of the investigation? If, so please keep us updated... I'm very curious to know how this plays out.

i will be following this with the mnr....
if justice is not dealt i have other options with other gov't offices
i will keep you updated
