Afternoon,

So I came into this problem last night. I bought a ton of new spoons all sorts but I found a few are just too light for casting although when I test em out in the water I want that baby out there catching me fish.

So my ? if how can I add weight to a spoon without altering the action?

I don't want to add weight to the line you all know how that works out not so well.

I was thinking maybe a magnet u tell me?

Or I was also considering bullet weight like when I use the rubber worms for bass add a beed to keep it away from the knot?

Any ideas?

If I were to do this, I would consider rigging the spoon similar to a Carolina rig. I would use varying sizes of bullet sinkers ahead of a bead and a swivel which is tied to a 2 foot leader. Tie the spoon on the end of the leader. The leader would allow the spoon enough line to not alter its action. The weight used would vary depending on the depth at which you want to fish. Instead of fishing the spoon slower to achieve greater depth, this would allow you to fish faster at a greater depth.

I have never tried this, but it is what I would try.

Yawn,

I came into the same problem, I got six 4'' glow spoons, but they were too light to cast. On the weekend I tried the bullet head with and without the swivel. When there was no swivel, the action of the spoon was "flat", however with the swivel worked much better. I also tried put on a weighted treble hook and a heavier split ring on both ends, which worked pretty well, you could also add some little "flashers" to the spoon. The best idea I could come up with though, was to weld two spoons into one, it took a while to get the sides filed down smooth but this has worked the best and didn't affect the action, so if you have access to the equipment I suggest giving this a try.

Cheers,

I had the same problem last week fishing for pike and placed small weights above the wire leader, the spoon action remained constant and we caught several using this method.

I bet your using a bait caster and not getting much distance. Try using a spinning reel and see how much farther you will cast.
