Hey guys.I was up fishing on the fly for bass on the Conestoga River recently.Scoping out the waters from a bridge only 30 ' above the water I saw a group of 6 most likely carp , of a size I have never seen or heard.Closely comparing them to bolders beside the river,I estimate them to vary in size between 3 and 5' long one with huge girth.Anyone seen or heard of such fish !!??

Lots of huge carp in the Conestoga, not 5' ones though. There are definately Carp over 20lbs in the conestoga but I cant really see any species getting to 5' in length around here.

i think i know the fish you speak of. i fished the same bridge (i think) and snagged a large tractor tire on the bottom. i had 15 lb line on and managed to pull a bit before it snapped. a few monsters came racing out (two looked almost purplish). they were definately carp,

talked to a friend who knew the fish also...confirmed they were English Carp .were not talking 20 lbs here boys were talking a girth 16 or more inches across...and the lengths I mentioned ...you do the math...not so unusual he says for these monsters.

Like this fatty?

That thing weighed a lot, I had to two hand the net to get it into the canoe... Not me in the picture.

thats probably the same,as what my associate described ...oversized gut...nnniiiccceee fish out of a canoe...I enjoy the solitary nature of the canoe also..now with a fly rod only ...what a charge!

This one dragged us both around in the canoe pretty good, was a pretty good little trolling motor!

XD

I get a bunch of them come in into my marina in Owen sound. A good shoulder to finger length , caught one on my 11 wt 14 ft rod. But before that snapped my 6 wt like a twig

I see carp this size in Fergus sitting in the falls below the goofy noofie. Perfect place for them to hang out to eat cheetos and whatnot.

I'd believe it. I see carp around 2' long all the time in the Grand and had one scare the crap out of me that had to be close to 5' long. I was standing in the water and it was 3' away from my knee. Apparently a few people have hooked him but he snaps lines and rods.

i see some big carp sometimes in the detroit river,i don't really target them but man i'm sure there are a few monster ones swimming in the river!

It must of been a carp. Sturgeon get that big easily but they're not in small rivers. I've heard the carp get big but never heard of that size in ontario before!

Cat

I've caught some 3 3 and half footers on the Trent. They r big. They are a carp species. I find that they are always in a tight group of 4 or 5. Caught one once shore fishing and had to jump in water and got towed around for 15 min before it tired. Man was it fun
