They can be, coho's typically get that yellow spot on the tip of there kype, could be a bow... Sure looks like a coho to me, either way beauty fish.

Good eye. Fresh coho salmon can definitely look a lot like ocean run rainbows. Here's a good example

Congrats on the fish! With this picture you cannot see the mouth or the tail so you can't tell by this picture.

I blew the pic up and flipped my monitor around - definitely see why some are calling it a coho, looks a lot like a Huron fresh run coho.

If you haven't filleted it and you were able to freeze it relatively intact, take some more pics and post 'em up.

Yes, its frozen solid and intact still. I'll repost pics when I can. (if a huron coho), do the males have the kype? Whats the easiest way to tell between steelhead/coho?

Coho only have spots on the upper half of the tail and the tail is slightly forked . The gums are greyish colour .
Yes the males get kypes , top curls over the bottom , very impressive fish .
