I headed out with a buddy on friday morning and we had a great day in Gilford. With the help of the Navionics app on my iPhone we were able to take the guessing game out of finding the locations of the drop offs and deep holes. If you don't have a GPS with lake depth info this app comes in very handy. Once we found them we where hammering them from 18-30ft. All day I used a small shiner teardrop jig tipped with a pinhead that produced consistently all day. I'm still smiling. Here are the few I brought home for the dinner table. The one I'm holding was the largest of the bunch. Approximately 13-14".
We had a few challenges through the day, like frozen rod guides (if anybody has any suggestions please share) and the light but constant wind blowing across the lake from the south reeked havoc on my friends Marcum. Freezing up the knobs and packing the viewing screen area so bad that it was rendered useless. but to be honest things it didn't really slow us down. We just kept punching holes and dropping lines.
I had a great time. Next time out I want to get on to some Pike... if anyone has any pointers, tips and tricks that they would like to share it would be appreciated.
