Hey guys,

I happen to be fortunate enough to have a brother training to become a commercial pilot. The only thing he cares about is hours... hours... hours... getting his hours up on airplane experience. He will be home for the month of April and has made me an offer.

He is flying a small plane, similar to what you will have been in on any fly in fishing trips. He is currently flying on wheels... but said their are hundreds of landing strips up north.

He told me anything I can find within 150 miles from Oshawa (as the bird flys) which is sudbury / north bay / mattawa / pettawawa/ ottawa+ as a general boarder line he can make a day trip out of. Fly in.. land.. figure out a fishing situation for a half day, and fly home.

If anyone has any network/ experience/ knowledge to share I would appreciate all of it. As for species... I am not really picky. April 1-31 so alot has to do with what is open. big northerns sounds like an epic trip.

Cheers

It is really a shame he doesn't have floats on it. I think it really depends what you want to do, You could land at almost any small town north of subdury walk to a close by lake or river and probably have reasonable fishing. You could also land and get someone to take you to water and rent a boat.

As for exact locations I normally just stop by a couple lakes on my way up and only really fish north of Timmins or north of Wawa.

If you want sometime really cool you could try to get him to fly you to the sault to fish bows in the rapids.

I should add that lots of lakes will still be frozen on the 1st.

I think that is when he can do it, I believe it said he was planning a half day trip.

X2 remy, temagami is like a hot version of nippising

ok GT i am in--i will start dieting so i fit in the plane hahaha sign me up baby!!

i know you didnt invite anyone but ---haha if you are rusty and i are the package

my boss has a cottage in temagami, he brags about the laker and speck fishing all the time, specks are apparently open since they are a stocked fish

I am looking at mattawa for a few reasons, the airport is touching the Ottawa River which eliminates any transportation, and the fact its a moving system and will not be frozen.

However, I just looked up the regs for zone 11, and not much going on for the month of April. Brooks Browns and Bows is about all you can fish for. Will those be around in the river way up there?

I'd suggest a flight to Wiarton. They have a courtesy car there, so, you could land and drive somewhere and fish. There's the Georgian bay, and a few inland lakes and rivers you might want to try. Good luck, and fly safe!

IMO if your buddy is also into angling there is legwork to be done, in this case wing work.

How many of you found a new trib' and hiked miles to find the perfect pool?

Well now you have access to a plane, do you fly to a proven lake, or spot a small one from the air, figure out if its accessible, fish this virgin territory, use your angling expertise and get into some fish!

Now I leave it up to you to decide on which will be more rewarding.
