Hi guys,

I just bought a 11 ft fiberglass boat. and i need a roof rack for my car to carry it. So I am wondering where can i get a CHEAP roof rack that can fit on top of a Nissan Maxima. And what do you guys think of putting a 11 ft boat on top of the car, is it safe?

thx
Jackie

I think it would be safe as long as you tie it down properly but fiberglass is usally a bit heavier then alum and if I had a choice and the finances were in order I would be looking for a cheep trailer instead. Good Luck

you can consider yakima or thule roof racks... look at their sites, they have racks for specific cars
but as was mentioned, a trailer would probably be best bet.

i intend to get a canoe, and a roof rack would suffice, but for a heavier boat, i would go trailer for sure.

An 11ft fibergalass would be heavy to put up on a maxima, do you know how much it wieghs? prolly 200#s+? get a cheap trailer instead that way you can haul extra stuff in the boat as well ie, cooler, gear, etc.. last thing you want to do is have to lift a heavy boat after a full day of fishing.

Yea, but trailers ain't cheap at all, they are at least $400 to $500, and plus i don't even have a hitch on the back of my car. so i can't really tow a trailer. Roof rack would be my only choice. When I bought this boat, i carried it all the way from hwy 400 to McCowan and Dension, only with the Canoe carrier kits, which contains foam and straps. But the problem is i had a hard time opening the door because the foams are literally right on top of the door crack. So maybe a roof rack can fix that problem. The boat weights around 200lb and it's 4ft wide. As long as it's safe to carry around then i guess it's fine. I just wanna safe some money and see if I can get a cheaper roof rack instead of paying $200-400 for the rack. I will probably get the racks from Canadian Tire or Yakima. Anyways, thank you all for providing the information, very appreciated.

LOL I was driving 80 with it on the hwy, and it was windy, snowing on that day. But it seems fine if i don't go over 80 lol.....or else........
