Ok want to see if there is any interest in doing this. The raffle talk had me thinking of doing this here.

The purpose of this is to help new fly fishing guys along build up a selection of flys.

So we pair up New Fly Guys with Old Fly guys (old being experienced not age related)

The new Fly Guy would send the old fly guy something the old guy needs for tying
When the old fly guy gets this item, he then sends the new fly guy a sample package.

for example.

I sign up as new Fly Guy. Chasing Chrome Signs up as Old Fly Guy.
We exchange PM and he decide how big a trade we want to do. He then tells me that he needs #2 hooks, PInk Marabou and Peacock Hearl

I go purchase these items and ship to CC or buy online and have delivered to his address.
When he gets the package he then puts a package together of items I, a new fly guy would need valued at what the items sent to him are worth. role of tippet, a few flies he tied, pair of nippers. whatever and sends to me.

We post up pics and the like in this thread for all to drool over. It turns into allot of fun and helps new guys along while replenishing the veterans supplies or at least making it a two way street so new guys are not just leaching from vets. On the other forum it always turns into a contest to see who can out do each other.

So what do you all think? Want to give it a whirl

Sounds good. Questions though, if old guy needs $20 of gear and new guy needs $20 of gear why wouldn't they just buy their own gear? Or is old guy getting rid of old unwanted gear? Is old guy tying and buying for new guy? That's how I understand this barter. If so, old guy also has a time commitment in addition to buying and sending say nippers, tippet as you stated in addition to flies he tied. If he's okay with that, fine. How about mentoring for tying or casting/ rigging lessons in exchange for tying material if old guy feels he requires something for his knowledge? Some guys are good that way and just like to pass on their knowledge, but time is a commodity. I've never tied, I just buy because I've never done it and time is an issue. Just my 2 cents Semi new guy although closer to fifty than forty.

Cold feet the theory is the old fly guy probably has stuff that he does not use that would help a new guy along. I agree with the mentoring and the forum where I took this from that was common for the two to start connecting and helping the new guy along.

Really it is a way for veteran guys to bring along a new generation of guys and help spread knowledge and experience
