Hey everyone,

I'm heading to Algonquin Park next week for a 3 night canoe trip. We are starting off at:

Access Point:

3 - Magnetewan Lake Access Point

Hambone Lake and setting up camp at Queer Lake.

Would love to take advantage of the mellow days (we are staying at the same camp) to fish my heart out.

I'm new to the whole fishing scene but it's something I've wanted to get into for a long time.

We will be backpacking/portaging so I won't be able to bring a big tackle box with me.

Was hoping you guys, having an infinite amount more knowledge than I do, would be able to suggest some lure/baits, techniques etc.

The rods i've got are: Both 7'

First: Shimano Signature Series II
Second: abu garcia veritas next generation

don't have a preference as I haven't really fished much with either.

Was thinking about trolling whilst canoeing up to our destination. Seems this area may be occupied by trout mostly.
For those interested in looking it's in Zone 15

Just east of Kearny,

Thanks in advance for any tips and or help.

Great advice right here.

As for the fishing, right at sun up and sun down are the best times. Trolling spoons is very effective ( EGB's, Williams in gold or silver/chrome ). Jigging can be very effective, white tube jigs are great - trout will move distances throughout the water column if they are interested. Chances are the fish will be anywhere between 40 - 70 feet of water suspended 15 - 30 feet down ( a general idea here ). If you have a fishfinder bring it with you. No live bait allowed in the park... I would suggest bring a few frozen minnows. Best of luck, take some photos and report back :)

Welcome to the forum.

Ah, I forgot to mention something. If you are planning on releasing the fish, work fast... temperature shock plus the added stress of being fought on the end of the line can really harm the fish so it is imperative you work fast and get that sucker back into the depths... or on the grill

Network54 is home to the best Algonquin Park website, lots of information on the site. Check out Jeffs Algonquin Map.

Was in there in early June and was killing it trolling with panther Martin spinners . I know you said you can't bring a tackle box but I would suggest getting yourself a real small Plano box to at least give yourself some lure options. Another suggestion I would make is bring a little plastic clamp that you can clamp to the side of the canoe and rest your rod against it so you can paddle and not worry bout holding your rod while trolling. Have a good trip, lake trout is delicious.

P.s.

DON'T FORGET BUG SPRAY!!!
