Hello OFF community,

Just wanted to say Hi. My name is Danny and I am new to this forum. I've been fishing for a long time, although not very good at it. For the past 15 years fishing I've just been fishing aimlessly for fun. But now I am starting to use the little that I've learned in the past 15 years to build on it to become better at fishing. The fishes I enjoy fishing for most is Bass an Crappies, although I do target other fishes such as pikes and walleyes. I've recently developed a passion for salmon/trout fishing. I've done some fishing this September in a nearby creek and landed my first salmon in the creek. I am looking forward to trying this years Steelhead Run in the fall/winter and see how that turns out. I guess the trick for that is to go out and check out the creeks/rivers as much as possible. Pier fishing also sounds appealing which is something I would like to try next year for salmon. If anybody can help me out on what kind of rod to use for pier fishing and if it differs from river that would be great!

Looking forward contributing to and learning from this wonderful community.

Regards,
Danny

Welcome aboard Danny., Glad to have you on here. And I am VERY jealous! I have been fishing for Salmon for 3 years, no lucky, your first try and you get one!! ARGHH!!!!!! haha :p. Thats good though good for you!!

Hi Danny welcome.

You come to the right place to be a better angler. Everyone shares information with great tips and techniques to catch more fish. That's great that you caught salmon. Congrats. So much has change since I been out for salmon. New gear and new techniques. Fishing is just like this forum, the more you do it or read the forum the better you will get. The general Ontario fishing discussion has great guys to help out if you have any questions. Hope you enjoy and use it often to report your success. :D

I only tried pier once unsuccessfully and most go to rivers, I used a 7'6" spinning rod for salmon. Now, everyone is using float reels and rods that cost big $. I have a new 10'6" steelhead rod that I hope to use with a spinning reel with 8 lb mono line. I think it will provide a great fight with the lighter line. We'll see.

Good fishing.
