Hello all! I've officially left the eastern half of the GTA where I used to live and am now a Burlington resident... the most significant thing about this being that I'll have to start learning some new waters! Which is exciting for sure, but I'd love some direction along the way.

From what I've read so far, Binbrook conservation area seems like it could be legit. Any advice or thoughts on it, guys? (Or girls, perhaps!)

Oh - and I do have a kayak which I can't wait to use

Cheers

You may want to check out Mountsberg Conservation, closer to you. Google map it.

Hmm, yes a few minutes closer indeed. I'll for sure check that out too but my gut is screaming "Binbrook" for now, so I think I'll follow it. Thanks none the less!

Get on that kayak buddy! Started using them this past summer and love every bit of it. What you gonna be targeting?

and welcome!
Thanks! Yeah I think I love my kayak as much as it is possible for a man to love an object.
Bass is my target, but if I hook a pike or walleye you won't see me complaining.

Do you know if it is a rocky bottom or weedy lake?

Dude, nice largies in burlington bay not to mention the vast selection of other species available , I would try some marinas closer to home, better fishing than binbrook for sure.

Just my 2 cents

I can atest to the fact that Lake O. in Burlington/La Salle/Hamilton area is packed with fish. I live 5 minutes away from La Salle marina and have witnessed awesome sized sheepshead pulled out on crankbaits in the middle on a hot summer day. Perch, silver bass, white perch bite non-stop. Burlington canal has very good reputation and you will find fishermen there quite often. I have not caught large fish in these waters, but I've seen others that did.

Do not fish near the bottom of the water column on anything resembling worms or you'll be pulling out gobies all the time. Drop-shot at least a foot or two away from the weight.

As far as taking the the fish home - I would not take any fish from waters west of the Burlington canal.

Binbrook is no secret, but I'll leave it up to you to google it. Hint: it is a conservation area of course. That means the CA has data on it on their website.

Mounstberg + Kayak = good times. I'll leave that up to you too to discover the quirks.

Bottom line, all the conservation areas are going to have some decent fishing. Being in Burlington, you will have them all at your finger tips. You are surrounded by Halton, Niagara and Hamilton-Wentworth which all have their share of fine CAs within an hour or less drive of Burlington.

And yes, OPs are spot on when they say burlington bay is chalk full of warm water species. Perfectly suited for a gentleman with a yak.

Awesome, can't wait to start figurin' them out...

If you're in Burlington your best bet is probably LaSalle.. I've seen some nice fish pulled out while walking along there.. Like rybak said; perch, white perch, silver bass will bite all day long (use a worm under a float, or slowly retrieve a 2/5oz cleo a couple feet from the bottom).. Same with the marinas in Hamilton; just watch the boats! In the canal/fishermans pier there is also some awesome opportunities as well.. Cast into Lake O for that beastly species that all the seasonal warriors chase (y'all know what species I'm talking about!), or cast into the harbourside pier and hook into some monstrous sheephead or carp (if you're into that/have the gear for it).
