Hi everyone,

I've been reading the forums for awhile now and just started getting into salmon/steelhead fishing more seriously so I thought this would be a good place to start and learn some info. Just bought my first rod yesterday a 13'6" Raven RV9 and can't wait to test it out this weekend. Also looking for a CP reel as I am currently using a buddies for the time being. Any advice would be great.

Plenty of trout fanatics on board. How much you willing to spend on a centerpin? In my opinion ( if possible ) is to pick up a gently used reel for 250-350 that will last you a life time. There are plenty of reels in the 100 - 150 dollar range, and a few in the $1300++ range. Let us know what you are lookng to spend and we can take t from there.

I'd be willing to go up to $350 or around there (probably islander) but am open to suggestions. Went out today and landed my first resident brown, beauty fish on a beauty day. I'll post a picture later. Any suggestions for main line to use (ie brands)?

That's a nice Brownie, I'd say just keep on doing what you are doing. I'd love to be catching fish like that.
