Newbie to forum and fly fishing

Gentleman. Looks like a great forum
This Will be my first year fly fishing and recently bought orvis Clearwater 905-4 combo. Have been spinning fisherman for years. fishing north Ontario lakes.
Was wondering if anyone can suggest a few rivers for a beginner fly fisherman to start out on in southern Ontario ?

Welcome to the sport, no doubt you will be glad you got into fly fishing! With a 5 weight I assume you want to chase trout... Lots of trout waters in Southern Ontario - Credit River, Grand River, Saugeen, Maitland, Nottawasaga... plenty more. Where abouts will you be looking?

All above mention rivers are great. east tribs are great as well. As a beginner...you will have a blast during the openers if you can find some nice quiet pools. I'm not sure how you will handle steels on 5wt...I have struggled on 6wt with them and browns...maybe you will do better. Good luck.

Pretty much I'll fish anything. Thanks for the response ! I'll probably check the credit out first. Any tips on location to start fishing from?
And I figured I'd go 5 weight since it's my first fly rod I could go after anything-sturgeon

Welcome to the site Wrighty, and enjoy fly fishing.
If you ever want to meet up I'm in the barrie area and normally fish the rivers and creeks around here for trout and smallmouth. Lots of good areas around. Get scouting!

You should be fine with 5 wt. as i said, I struggled. but I have landed a couple biggies on 6wt. Credit is great. on the east end, most of the tribs close to TO would be great but a lot of close sections now.

I'm green as can be at fly fishing. recently just bought a rod reel next step flies. Any suggestions on type of flies to start out with?

Stone flies & buggers...these flies are not cheap....$1-$1.25...if you have time, an investment for a fly tying kit can save you a lot of money tying them yourself.

Start with basic attractors like: pheasant tail nymphs, prince nymphs, hare's ear nymphs, royal coachman dries, adams dries, stimulator dries, and some soft hackles and woolly buggers. After you begin to catch fish you will start to favour certain flies but for now just stick with the basics. These flies are pretty much all I bring to the river when trout fishing and they always catch fish...
