Hey everyone,

I am new to the site and new to Urban Fishing in the Toronto area. A recent fishing trip with my old man on The B of Q over the weekend re-sparked my love for the sport and I had a few questions about fishing within the city. I checked out Toronto Urban Fishing for some good spots to check out, I live in the Parkdale area and noticed HR and GP are both nearby fishing areas. I was curious what the quality of fishing was at these spots? From what I've read there's a lot of Crappie, Rock Bass and Sunfish at Grenadier with the occasional bass. The posts I read were from 2012, so I was hoping someone has some updated information. I also read that Ontario Place is a good place to get some pike. I was also curious about the quality of the water in these areas? I would naturally assume any body of water close to a major metropolitan area would be too polluted to keep anything from the water, but again was curious on your opinions? Thanks again in advance! I'm looking forward to hopefully getting out this weekend.

Cheers!

Chris

*Edit: Realized I had named some lakes / Rivers. Is it okay to say Ontario Place as it's technically the area and not the name of the river?

Grenadier pond had 2 mass fish-kills. One in june(july?) of 2013, and also one during the super old christmas. The pond is a no-go. Theres hardly any fish left. Pretty barren.

HR is.....meh. If you fish at the mouth(carp, bass, pike) or during salmon runs, theres fish to be had.

I fish ontario place a lot too, maybe we can fish together some time :) The entire harbourfront is good for fish.

That's unfortunate to hear about HR and Grenadier, but I'm happy the harbor front is good all around. Brought the Rod down from my old mans and just bought a tackle box today. Going to pop by CT tomorrow and maybe grab a few lures. Any live bait shops in the city? Mainly looking for worms. I'd also be interested in fishing with someone so I'll keep you posted on when I plan to head out.

Cheers,

Chris

Welcome to OFF.
Lots of good folk and info floating around. Lol.
Im not in Toronto, but in Hamilton. Urban fishing just requires leg work. Get out and explore, that is half the fun.
In the last 7 or 8 years, exploration has found me a number of glory holes in my area. Google maps is also a handy tool.

Worms.............I pick them after rain. spend ~1hr and can get close to 100 of them. There are some live bait shops in Toronto area, one near sheppard and (warden? kennedy?) I forgot........

CT lures can sometimes be overpriced.

Example: Lunker hunt lure kits (panfish jigs, flipping crawfish, etc) are $7-8 at CT, but you can buy them for $3 at dollarama (ya, dollarama carrys them).

WELCOME TO THE SITE!!!, im not in the GTA area im in london, but if ur into more of a fight than keeping the fish, then go for carp, carp give a crazy fight, especially the big ones.
