Hey guys,
New to OFF, hello!

I am a student at brock, and i love fishing. Was down in the whirlpool for the first time ever today, and even though no fish, it was a blast. I saw a school of HUGE carps rolling around, had to have been close to 30lb'ers.

There were 7 people there today which seemed heavy, i thought my buddy and I would be the only two. In the three hours we were there, no one pulled up a single thing. (of any of us)

We are looking for anything open other then carp and cat... I was wondering , at this time of the year, what is the best bait to use and the best species to go for. (ideally rainbows), and what time of day!

Any help you guys can offer is much appreciated!

Cheers !

p.s. couldn't find the path on the way down, so we bush wacked to get down... that was fun (not). Going back up the trail was 10 times easier, nice to know that is there now :)

I went to the whirlpool yesterday (well I tried at least) but couldnt find my way down. There were trails in all sorts of directions and I was wearing business attire so after maybe 10 minutes of not being sure if I was heading in the right direction I decided to head back to the car. Is Niagara Glen Park where you go down to the whirlpool? If so which way do you go once you get to the bottom of the metal staircase?

First parking lot above the tram car, look for path with stairs.
Defintely NOT the Glen.

Bass (jigs, be prepared to lose a few), a few muskies, and a bunch of carp. The carp are the hardest fighting fish of the bunch until the salmon start to show up in a few weeks.
If you're at Brock poke around the harbour, talk to a few locals (that don't have a white bucket). Get all kinds of stuff down there in the summer, walk & cast the rap wall around the marina.

That place is really nice...once you park your car, face the whirlpool (opposite of the road :p) and walk right on that little asphalt path and you;ll see wooden stairs, just walk down from there and good luck walking back up...make sure you put on some bug spray as well, when i went i got bit by mosquitoes real bad on my way down.

i mean go RIGHT ----> on the path and you'll see the stairs going down

Darn I was hoping it was the glen because it would be nice to go for a hike with the girlfriend and have a picnic at the bottom while I get my line wet. I'm assuming that the way down to the whirlpool wont be nearly as scenic of a hike? Maybe ill just have to head to those wooden stairs another day on my own. Is it worth taking your rod down to areas below the Glen if your going to be hiking down there already?
