Hi friends- I have been drooping a line in 5he waters for a few years now....was just driving down a back road and found a great tributary....made me wonder if you can drop a line at this time of year. Googled it and found some differing answers, except that there's a family fishing wknd in february. Could anyone impart their wisdom in this regard? Thanks! Andrea

Family fishing in Feb is kinda intended for ice fishermen, but it applies to all.
yes its a free fishing weekend, meaning you don't need a license, but you still have to follow the regulations in regards to closed seasons, which i think is what the OP was referring to. if he's travelling backroads and finding a small trib, hes likely way north of the open fishing grounds

Yup, check the regulations. A lot if closed right now. If you can find it in the regs, it follows whatever rules there are for the nearest river/creek nearby. Welcome to the site

Free fishing only means you can fish w/o license. This is to promote clean and proper fishing in our province and to promote fishing in general. You still have to follow the regulations. If it's a close section for a certain specie, then you can't target them. Take note that every zone has different regulations. And if by chance you catch something that's close for the season...just carefully put them back in the water.

I think the general rule for tribs is south of 401 east tribs open, south of 403 west tribs open. No?

not sure, i rarely fish zone 16, also that wouldn't apply to the huron side. zone 17 between the lake and CN tracks from Jan 1st til opener, Oct 1st- Dec 31st is the lake to highway 2

Fair enough... I'm trying to figure out about an east trib right now, I rarely fish. It might actually be closed... CHECK MNR REGS before fishing everyone!

which east trib? i can help ya out there, those are the ones i fish all the time

I'm good, I misunderstood and read it wrong. ALL of Durham region you can fish the south side of the CNR downstream to the lake for Rainbow, Brown, Pacific, AND Atlantic Salmon ALL year long. Atlantic salmon is a new addition I believe as it's highlighted in red. That must be good news for the fisheries. You can only catch and release Atlantic salmon.
