Nothing working for salmon at creek mouth!!

Hi there for the last 3 days i been fishing at a creek mouth and clearly theres monster salmon in there cause the water is clear enough you can see them swimming around and get around 7-8 salmon breaking water in a half hour (no exaggeration) and the thing i like about it the most everytime i been there theres only 2-3 people max,its clearly overlooked. It's frustrating when your throwing lures,spoons,and roe and they aint taking nothing and you have them clearly jumping out of the water-6-7 ft away from you. and just the sheer size of them has me going for hours with nothing. What am i doing wrong? if they ain't actively feeding once in the river mouth why do the take roe? and even the other guys i seen fishing there are getting skunked, any suggestions? using glow in the dark spoons, which i lost got snagged , but used raps,spoons,spinners, and was wondering by using the floating raps does it work? would the hit fish swimming on top of the water or does it have to be one of those sinkers? please any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Have you mastered fishing for any other species?

Salmon are not the easiest, even though they appear in massive numbers.

Bows are far easier, not to mention the warm water species.

Once you get the hang of it with another species, the elusive salmon will become more within your reach, and not so elusive afterall :wink:

PS. There's more to salmon than just the "right bait". Fishing has all sorts of subtleties that separate the frequent catcher and the skunked angler.

I know on days when you know the fish are there (seeing or hearing them) but they aren't even taking a look at what your offering.. I've tried swedish berries that I brought for a snack and have caught a few Browns to close out the day, sinnce then I always bring goodies for the munchies and the fishies lol.

I can relate to that. I was night fishing at the Oshawa Pier recently with salmon rolling every minute. The most active I've seen them at a mouth. They say the morning bite is best, just when the sun is rising. I haven't been very happy with the results I got with glow in the dark spoons. I would say experiment with more lures and change your timing.

Isn't Oshawa Pier closed to fishing by those fences? I was there last fall and could not get access to the pier

It's true. There's a fence, but the fish were just as active right outside of it. There's always people crossing the fence though...

Sure....I saw in the original post that the gentlemen threw the kitchen sink as the fish with little success. Being a fly guy, I thought I put in my two cents. I may be off base, but I've roused a lot of salmon in that area with wet flies dunked just below the surface when the kitchen sink wasn't working...

Your best bet is to either fish overnight or in the morning when sunrise hits. Fishing for salmon is a waiting game and if you dont have the patience to wait you're def going to get skunked. If I was you, I'd try bottom bouncing and casting into the direction that the fishes are always swimming by. If you're lucky you'll get a bite or two and thats consider good and you better be holding onto your rod cause when they bite you'll have a better chance to set your hook. Trust me, Its frustrating to play the waiting game but its worth it if you can set the hook and fight the fish. I've seen so many people that doesnt even get a single bite and I feel sorry for them. And for myself, I consider myself pretty lucky since almost everytime that I've been out for salmon i was fortunate enough to get a few bites and manage to fight a quite a few fishes and land some. Also, if you're casting spoons and you're getting no bites, its best if you change your set up and try something new...using the same thing over and over and getting no results will def get you skunked. Just my two cents. Good luck though
