hey everybody, i have been out too nottawasaga river four times this year and only managed one fish early season. I am fishing in the catch and release section and i have talked to many other anglers and they said that they had little luck lately. I am just wondering if anybody on this forums has had any luck or if you guys can give any tips on what to use. Heres the one i caught in october.phoca_thumb_l_gedc15501.jpgphoca_thumb_l_gedc15501.jpg

Welcome aboard!

I don't fish the Notty, but I have seen a few threads here about this particular river. Hopefully some members with experience on this river can chime in with some more info.

i find peach bags work right on bottom. the pools are pretty deep so i use a long shot line. i also fish the c&r section near ivy

I fished the C&R section this year as well. An absolutely beautiful river.

The fishing was OK for my friend and I (Our first times there).
Biggest fish was only 3lbs or so and the rest of them being shaker sized.
I have heard from many that this is normal...for the system to have a lot of smaller fish.

The river is big. You'll need to adjust your depth accordingly.
Keep playing around until something works.
For us, once we got the depth right, we hit some fish.
They hit roe bags of various colours, but keep switching it up until you find out what they want.

Had the canoe and my youngest son with me,around sept, electric motor ,fish finder as well. That river is hard to fish, loads of fish below the boat from surface to bottom.Trolled with #2 mepps but nothing biting,no one catching anything.
Have caught a lot of fish over time, but mid august seems to be the best for me.You can fish from the bank for hours sometimes and not see a fish jump once that day, their in there but you just have to change things up when nothing is working.

I fish there at least 5 - 10 times a year. Over the last three years the number of fish seem to be dropping around the campground. Have caught some big fish up that way though and had some big number days.
I always bring tons of bags all different sizes and colors, this way i always have what they are hitting on.

Thanks and just wondering is that campground free access this time of year because i always use to enter from the otherside cause i thought it was private. I was wondering where all the fishermen came from <_< . Last year I managed a few fish somedays and others nothing. Just wish there werent so many logs to loose your hook on :x

You are supposed to pay, and i have heard that they police it. I never have payed and never plan to. but I never said that and will deny it in a court of law.

what campground you talking about? sauline? i dont think you need the pass that far south but i could be mistaken. i think its for the parks in angus really

Ya I'm am talking about the trailer park out side of Angus. right near Ivy.

I spent over 45 days guiding the notty this fall and the numbers are still good when the runs come through. You may not be hitting it at the right times or fishing the right spots with the right baits. It's comon to catch a lot of smaller fish in the fall because the bigger fish move in during the winter and spring months, thats not to say you wont catch a 10lb steelhead in September or October. Keep in mind you"re not the only guy that struggles on the notty, it can be a very tuff river to read and to fish until you figure it out. If you really want to learn the fine details of the notty contact me and I'll show you.

Yes, you are required to have a ESSA fishing pass at the campsite at Sauline to access the river downstream of the road and campsite. The land is owned by ESSA township and signs were up at the end of november and the ESSA works department manages that area and checks for passes. The upstream section is posted and the land owner is often patroling it so be careful not to tresspass up river.

For the ESSA fishing pass the township office is off of County rd 21 just south west of county rd 56. I think its $20.00

Good luck,

thanks for the info, should i bother checking it out this weekend....lots of snow and not sure if the river wll be frozen over:s

I heard guys were up to there waist in snow a few day ago. Over 3 feet of snow now and with yesturdays very cold weather it may have some ice on it. I'm not sure if its worth the drive, if i get any reports from guys coming into the store today i'll let you know.

I have driven over the notty the past couple days going to work and i can tell you the slow moving parts have started to freeze over/become snow covered. I haven't been able to check any faster moving water but its not looking good.

i find the notty takes a long time to clear up, so i think it will need another couple weeks atleast....its almost always murky, even in the summer.
