My father is visiting from out west and loves fishing, he has never been fishing in Ontario before. Want to take him to a lodge the first weekend of October, looking at options on the french river/upper french, west arm nipissing or georgian bay area. Recommendations on area should we go for? Walleye / Muskie would be the ideal species, anything else would be fun too though! Thanks!

Thanks, LOTW does look amazing, but we are driving from Toronto so something within about 4hrs drive is the goal.

Moon is ok but you can do WAY better. I do day trips up there. Sometimes it can be great other times not so much.

French river is all name and no fish, one of the most disappointing trips ever. Don't waste your time. Although I did personally see monster muskies I spent a fortune on a cottage and fishing sucked.

Did the wolf river this year nice scenery but blah can do way better.

The place I recommend staying is close to Sue st marie.

Stayed there for a week last year, great lake for SM and the area is just loaded with amazing lakes to fish.
Great price too. Real nice guy who runs it. And for a bonus 50 bucks for a half hour plane tour from the guy who keeps his plane docked there. That made my week!

Thanks for the suggestions, Algoma would be sweet I'm sure but the distance from Toronto may be a bit far, looks like around 6hrs, as we are headed up Saturday morning and leaving Monday it is a fairly quick trip. So French river / West arm areas are bad ideas?

We have stayed on the upper French several times a couple times at Lunge Lodge if you do a little home work you will catch fish . We are Muskie fisherman and on the French they have some real hogs but they are lookers mostly you see trophy fish but its hard to get them to eat . You can catch Walleyes , Bass and all the small Pike you want and you have a chance at a PB Muskie at anytime . If I lived in Toronto we would fish it every year but from PA it takes us 15 hrs long drive hauling a boat . Good Luck which ever trip you choose . We fish the Kawartha's several times a year the numbers for Muskies there a real good there are several lakes I would recommend and they are a couple hrs from where you live . Send me a PM if you want more info.

If you are considering lake nippissing I would suggest south bay south river area. I fished it during mid summer and still managed to do very well for walleye landing a 6.5, 4.5lb and catching several slot fish for shore lunch along with tons of smaller eyes, a bunch of up to 10lb sheephead a nice pike some perch and a few smallmouth. I would suggest a simple 1/4oz jig and worm or worm harnesses. best fishing is early morning and late evening.
I stayed at birchwood cottages on south river nice cozy and clean with nice 18ft boats electric start motor and fishfinder. they only have a few cottages so not sure on availability also very well priced imo. only drawback although not really a problem is that its a 15 minute boat ride downriver to where I fished in south bay but walleye do run the river in spring and fall. Lots of bass in river aswell.
south river resort is close by along with lots of other outfitters. In south bay I did best in 18 to 25ft of water but being October when you are visiting you may find them a bit shallower.I caught fish drifting and still fishing chartreuse and white jigs and trolling perch colored harnesses really slow just off bottom, I use 2oz bottom walkers to achieve consistent depth.

Thanks guys, will look into the south bay/river area as well. Thought the French/West arm would be the best options but maybe not? This trip is my fathers first time to shield part of Ontario so scenery/landscape is about as important as the fishing, a balance of the two would be ideal!
