Okay, here I go again. Answers please.

K, thought it was time for me to ask a few more NOOB fishing questions.
Google leads me to too many contradicting sites, lol.

Rods
There are 3 things to consider when buying, for axample, a spinning rod.
1. Action
2. ?!? something else that is important
3. Max line weight.

K, now can someone explain to me what eactly the above are and their variations?

Also, what an ULTRALIGHT setup is used for?

I thank anyone with an understanding reply. lol.

Action- Has to do with what you want to fish for. Say for instance you want muskie, I'd go with a rod that has a medium to medium heavy action. All has to do with the shock and muscle that the rod has in it. Ultra light setups are for panfish, fun rods to use, can feel everything the fish is doing. I'm just going to guess on the second one, but the size of the rod is also important. Some like using a short rod, others a long rod. Different sizes for different conditions.

Gonna get me an ultralight cause I can't travel to the larger lakes. Gonna find me some GTA panfishing spots!

If the big fish aren't biting, panfish is the way to go. Can be a blast fishing for them, scrappy little(or in some cases, BIG) fighters. Keeps you active, that's for sure. Good luck! :shock:

Alright.
I wanted a cheap yet reliable Ultralight combo. So Ugly Stik was the way to go.
Called up Lebarons and Fishing Depot. No go. Only stocked the more expensive ULs.
So I ended up going to BPS and was found the Ugly Stick UL. $40 for just the rod...
Then I spotted the same rod but with a reel! For the same price of $40!

So I got that. The reel is a cheap 1 bearing Shakespeare. But seeing as it was technically free, I cannot complain.
If it ever breaks I have no problem upgrading to a better UL reel.

I also want to catch bigger fish, obviously.
But I want to start small, and it don't get any smaller than panfish. lol.
Was going to hit Grena pond or humor marsh but was getting late and the sun was setting. :shock:

Hopefully the winds really are not 32km/h as predicted and I can go tomorrow!

The Ugly Stick is an awesome rod for ultralight fishing(panfish, trout), I have 2 of them a 5.6ft and 6ft, if you get a light reel like a abu garcia for example, this makes for an excellent combo!! last year I caught a 5# pike on 4# line with a small trout fishing lure it was an awesome fight, I have a camera phone pic of it I'll try to post....

Le baron has 6ft ugly sticks for $36.89.... Walmart also has the same 1 bearing reel combo for $39.99. I genereally stay away from walmart & cdn tire for fishing stuff..way overpriced compared to BPS & le baron.

One thing I do not see from a lot of rod manufacturer is the Action rating.
If you look at Shimano rods, they tell you both Power & Action Rating. Where as other brands only shows Power Rating.
