Okie Heading North

Some family, friends, and I will be heading north on June 28th to hit LOW. I've spoken to the lodge operator, but thought I might also quiz you for your "don't leave home without it" lure selections. Start the list........................NOW:

2) White Twister.... 1/4 oz and 1/8 oz
3) Pumkinseed tube, the 3 to 4 inch jobber with 1/4 oz head
4) Johnson Silver Minnow with yellow twister
5) Mini tubes 16/oz heads
6) White spinnerbait
7) #4 Blue Fox spinner
8 Storm Wiggle Wart
9) Watermelon Senkos/Pink Senkos/Pumpkinseed Senkos
10) Rebel Wee R or similar surface popper

.... give me a jig or give me death.... ok, that may be tad overboard but you get it

Thanks, Dugger. That covers a lot of what I have with the exception of the 3" - 4" tube. I will make sure to pick up some of those, and I could also use a couple extra Wiggle Warts.

Yes...born & raised here. I fish for everything swimming. Looking forward to catching some toothy critters.

Going all the way to LOW. That's awesome. I know about Minnesota guys like Babe Winkelman fishing LOW but damn, OK is far.

I was actually thinking of driving from Toronto to New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado on a 16 day trip later this year to check out the desert. I'm a huge college football fan and somewhat avid angler. Looking at the route I see so many, many possibilities. Thinking hard about stopping in Norman for a game. Settling on what fishing spots to go to is an even harder decision.

If you make a swing through Oklahoma, there are plenty of fishing options; from stripers to trout, and everything in between. I am also a huge college football fan. I do the public address announcing for a NCAA Division II school in my home town. Fishing, Hunting, Sports; that's pretty much it for me.

Southeastern Oklahoma State Univ.

Several lakes in the state as well as the Arkansas River and Red River systems have sustainable striper populations. Lake Texoma and the Lower Illinois River are probably the most popular places.

Hey Docprice, my wife is from Oklahoma. Eufaula. right on the Lake. I have to say, that lake has fantastic fishing and a very healthy population of bait fish. I have to say your absolutely correct FISHING , HUNTING, FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL....Just got back from being in Eufaula for a week. I love Oklahoma....but hate snakes...lol and man there is lots of them around.

I haven't had a problem with snakes at most of the places I have fished this year. Looks like the mosquitos have eaten most of them. It's been a very wet late spring here in SE Oklahoma (but looks like upper 90's today) and the mosquitos are big and abundant.

By the way, I have had some good e-mail correspondence with an Enforcement Manager from the Kenora/Red Lakes Districts of the Ontario DNR. He's given me some helpful information on saltimng minnows to bring along on the trip. I asked a simple question on a helpline, and he's gone way above and beyond to give me info to make my trip a success.

One week from today we head North. Good grief this is going to be a long week.
