if it was that old shouldnt they have let it live in like an aqurium so it gets even older ? just curious

Not everyone is conservation minded. Could have just kept the measurements and weight and release the fish. Unless it came from to far in the depths and could not be returned safely.

rock fish are near impossible to release since they are bottom fish, this one came from 900ft down
