opener weekend camping trip

howdy guys nd galls, been a while but im back! lol just thought id share with you me and my buddies opener weekend. we had originally planned a trip to some north west tribs for chrome but to our dissapointment everything was up about 3 feet above normal and fishing was tough, we fished for a few hours with nothing and only saw one caught so we decided it was time for plan b... REZIS!! as we made our way back to my property which is about 80 kms from where we were we stopped at every small crick we passed and offered flies worms and spinners. We didnt have to much luck to begin with but we werent giving up especially on opener so we kept on run and gunnin till eventually we had action!! in the next hour we slammed on some chunky rezi bows, id say the biggest was just under 3 pounds. they werent the tank fresh lake H chromers we hoped for but they fought quite well especially on the fly. after the bite slowed down and the sun was almost right above us we went back to camp for beers a fish fry and some dirt biking. after that it was time for the afternoon/evening fish and specks and browns were in our cross hairs now. we didnt get into any browns but boy did we hammer the specs, some came on worms but the majority of the action was on the fly with prince nymphs being the favored pattern. we fished them under indicators twitching them often. we ended up doing the speck thing sunday aswell since the action was so hot and we were rewarded with the same non stop action although they werent into the flies as much worms and berkly power micro grubs were the ticket today. this weekend definitly got me back into fly fishing and i will be investing in a quality fly combo in the not to distant future (suggestions welcome, looking to spend about 150-200 on the combo).
