Its good to see the government finally take a proactive approach to invasives. I wonder how long it will be until a group that loves fishing for asian carp fights to have the species naturalized.....

Hope that the asian carp never becomes an native species. Just my opinion though.

And the vast vast vast majority of residents agree with you.

Glad to see some action being taken from our side, though I think they should have just filled in the canal years ago.

$17m isn't in the slightest comparable to what will be lost yearly(to commercial fishing, recreational fishing, etc..), if enough to reproduce/sustain get through. The small amount of people who will pursue it won't even remotely offset the losses, as proven south of the border.

Thats what people would have said years ago about common carp, now look at the "naturalized" classification we have been blessed with.... There needs to be some sort of invasive species movement as there are far too many people out there spoon feeding the wrong information about invasives to people who dont know any better.

I remember a thread on this forum last year where members were arguing that we have no obligation to euthanize invasive species that are caught and pointed to the way it was worded in the regulations to back their position. Then what happens is Ontarians search the internet to learn more about these species, stumble upon that thread and then adopt the belief that there is no point in doing anything about them....

I agree 100%. It's not just fish, look at Zebra muscles, blue strife, etc... It becomes a hot topic for one season, everyone assumes it's too big a fight to handle, we give up and assume the consequences.

I hope the government and anglers do not give up

If everyone just did what they thought was best, and take those 2 extra minutes, it's amazing the difference it would make.
