Sunday was such a nice day I decided to take the kids and the dog out for a nature walk. Well that's what I told the wife, for me it was to scout and see what's going on in my neck of the woods. We drove a few km north of where my house is to a park witch is located just north of the 407. We walked the trail and then off trail just to check a few of my spots. Sure enough just around the bend, to guys fishing. Thank god my kids are with me. No word of lie but I was fuming . Now my kids know me well and the older one has a pretty good idea about dads passion about nature and the laws and regulations that go with it. What came out of her mouth next I think changed the outcome of this story. Like I said before , I think I blanked out for a second and she grabbed my hand and said "dad lets call the police". She knocked some sense in to me and that grip of hers just calm me done enough do get my thoughts in order again. I re ensured the kids that I was just going to talk to them, and I did. It just sucks that the guy I talked to first said that he knows that trout opens on the 23rd of April but he was under the impression that its OK to fish in the park boundaries. The second guy was not fishing at the time but had possession of a spinning rod/reel and a fly rod/reel and no connection with the other guy. He said he saw him fishing at thought it was ok to fish. Long story short they thanked me for letting them know that they are breaking the law . But deep inside I truly believe that it was not a innocent mistake , but two smartass's trying to break a law and get away with it. On the way back from our walk the guys where gone . The good part of this story is that they picked up after them selves and did not leave a mess.

Good to hear you were able to talk to them, especially for your kids sake.
Everyone has different parenting skills and I do respect it. Personally, I wouldnt risk a situation like this where my 2 kids are involved in case the 2 fishermen turned hostile.

The first year I started fishing Steelhead I was in the closed section on a Trib, and some fisherman came to let me know sternly, it was wrong and what I was doing was illegal! Thank god they did, as I really didn't know and didn't understand the boundaries, because I was applying the regs of my local Trib to one that was just over the other zone. (learned my lesson)
At first they thought I was a poacher, but after talking for a bit, they calmed down and knew I was genuinely in the wrong and I asked to follow them to the legal area. I gave them a lift and we all got to fish together that day!
Not everyone out there is a bad guy, but yes they are in the wrong. Letting them know is the best thing to do and if they don't listen, you can follow up with MNR. But there's lots of people who are just ignorant and need to be told by a local how it's supposed to be. Obviously everyone is responsible for themselves, but let's help them out whenever we can!

I agree the regs are a confusing mess nowadays.
Regular opening and closing dates
Extended season closing dates
All year open sections.
All year sanctuary sections
No live bait
Artificial and barbless only
I just bring my lawyer fishing now.

Well at least they were not savvy enough to give you "was fishing for suckers" excuse...
got that excuse 2 years ago when hiking with my wife...just told them there are s**tloads of suckers in open sections too...if you give them the impression you care, they would get the message and move. show them you don't care they will just carry on.

2 rods allowed in this lake one rod only in that lake. 2 fish limit 1 fish limit 0 fish limit. 1 fish but must be in slot size. No fish to be kept on Sundays. Lol
My point being always research the regs before fishing any area.
Only rain man could figure all these regs out.

If you base it on specific targets, it's easier. it gets complicated with salmon & trout but all exemptions are understandable.
Then on top of the regs, certain parks allow and dis-allow things regardsless of the provincial law.
ex. Island Lake in Orangeville.
Bass was open - we caught 2, kept em alive in a tub, staff came and saw them.
Made us throw em back as they were having a bass tourney in a couple weeks. So they had a 0 limit......

Was standing on a traffic bridge once looking down at the water, noticed a guy fishing directly under my line of view and just started watching him fish for a few minutes, didn't want to interrupt. It was a C&R only area, very clearly marked. What he did next indicated he was well aware. Caught a decent brown trout, looked to his left and right (I was above, he had no idea), and put the fish in his vest pocket. For several reasons, I never want to get into a confrontation on the water. Not much I could tell him that he didn't already know anyway, apparently. Looking back I could have called authorities, there were several trucks there, didn't know which was his, didn't know how to identify him. Hindsight 20/20.
A friend of mine just called me about a group of guys he saw fishing a few hours a go. Listen to this , they thought the CP rail tracks and the CN tracks are the same. They were fishing away thinking their in the right, it took him a while to explain how the rails work.
checked out a local spot near me and noticed a sh1tload of tracks that look like big wading boot tracks all along the bank and under a bridge in various grip patterns also seen a big hen with its belly slit open......pretty common for these a-holes to fish the tribs right before opener especially being a sh1tty slow season.......
