Anyone entering the perch festival this year? would like to know what to expect New to OFF, but not to fishing but as we all know there is no limit to what can be learned buy talking to other anglers so if anyone has some insight into the art of fishing that they would'nt mind sharing I would love to hear it.

I already registered(cause of the early bird prize) first time doing the Perch festival too, I plan to check out the boat launch options & possibly pre fish tomorrow. If I learn anything I will share. Will you be using a boat or fishing from shore?

That would be great I will be fishing from a boat so knowing the launch options would be great advantage for me I have not registered yet but plan to do so. I have been told that it can get crowded there during the festival.

Perch Festival?? Sounds cool...what are the details? It`s probably up on simcoe right?, somewhere I can`t get too. Ohh well, good luck, perch are alotta fun!

The perch festival is located in orillia and it sounds like fun as long as it's not over crowded. The entry fee is something like $15.00 which is a reasonable entry fee considering some of the prizes. And even if you don't win anything it won't hurt the pocket too badly.

i might go to this on my way up to the cottage, but i'm still not sure if i'm going up to my cottage

Went to Orilia this morning, Lake couchiching still had lots of ice, North simcoe had ice in the channel south of the narrows, drove by tudhope park didn't find any launches except in couchiching park which is pretty far(4-5kms) from tudhope, So my plan is if I can't find a launch/parking @ couchiching I will just use blue beacon marina they charge $15 for the perch festival and free parking. They are right after the bridge on the right. and would be a shorter boat ride to tudhope then couchiching park I think.

If anyone has any more info pls let me know. Before it ends I plan to go at least 3-4 times.

Thx

ice still on the lake is a good thing for fishing when the time comes thanks for the info and when it get's closer we can see if our fishing schedule is or can be the same I wont always be fishing the weekend since I am self employed I can take some time to fish during the week.

I am planning on going for opening day, and potentially for the next couple of weekends afterwards. New boat in tow, I hope to get lucky, and just get out fishing.

I may follow Bigfisherman's advice with respect to the launch since I have never launched there myself.

I'm going to try to get out and talk to a pal that lives out that way he say's that he knows of some good launch and fishing area's that he would not mind showing me if I come up with anything will post. What type of bait/lure do people have in mind that might yeild some of those bigger pearch? I was out on simcoe last year and caught a monster perch by vertical jigging a small spoon in about 30ft of water.

Cool, I'm going to try everything in my arsenal mini tubes(these have been the most successful in any lake I've been in for perch), jigs with live minnows, gulp alive(leeches/smelts), worms, worm harness, small trout spinners(#1/#2), mini spinner baits, bobber style worm setup, mini crank baits. Not sure how deep the lake areas are so I will use these differently depending on depth, I think in 15-30ft+ jigs would be best.

Teninchman, have you towed/launched a boat before? If not practice, practice & practice. Took me awhile to get the hang of it and I'm not perfect at it but I can launch without a dock or ramp now and never get wet anymore:). Depending on what your towing with what helped me out alot was when picking up the boat if you can't see the trailer open the hatch/back if you can so you have a better idea where the trailer is makes it a lot easier especially if the ramps are steep.

We should all get together on the water on opening day, or even caravan up?? I plan to leave early tho want to get there before 7am. I plan to stop at the hiway side Mcdonalds/petro cdn station on the 400 right in Barrie for Fuel/breakfest. We can discuss it further if anyone else thinks its good a idea.

If anyone want's to try to pre fish the area prior to the festival I would be interested that is if the ICE melts with the weather that we are getting. I hate being at mother NATURE'S MERCY!!!
