Hi all, im going to try pike fishing this year and need some help on where to start, im not asking for your honey holes , however i wouldnt mind  but just info on what lines rod and all that. Now in terms of locations im thinking frenchmans bay ? any tips would be nice. P.S im heading out on duffins today so i will post a report on that

Cheers and tight lines everyone :)

for pike any medium to medium heavy rod 6'6 and up should be fine, for line it depends if theres alot of weeds run heavy (20#+) braid. Good luck today just try not to mention trib names some guys get a little touchy over it, especially this time of year when there is such limited water to fish for chrome.

10lb mono or braid...make sure you use a wire leader (specially if you're using plugs or spinners). Like chromer said...6'6" rod. Depending which part of Frenchman's you're fishing...the East part is a snagfest but on a good day you will be killing that spot and might catch a brown too. big carps if you're into them.

I can't claim to be a heavyweight in terms of pike fishing but in case it helps here is what line I’m thinking for pike setups this year:

Casting gear (M/H Fast Action rod): 12lb mono backing; 30-50lb braid mainline; 15 foot leader of 50lb fluoro

Spinning gear (M Fast Action rod): 20lb braid; 15 feet of 20-30 lb fluoro; 50lb fluoro leader

I'm looking forward to these setups because if I take of the heavy fluoro and replace it with something lighter (12-14lb fluoro or 6-8lb mono) I have my bass set up ready to go.

Last year when I went for pike I was working with 8-10 lb mono and a wire leader on my spinning gear and later in the summer I switched it up to 6lb mono + leader because the pike were shy and the bruisers weren’t biting anyways so I didn't bother taking off my usual bass line. A mono setup worked fine for me and is really cheap but I just didn’t like the line memory, especially with the big spinners I like to use for pike.

Cheers, let me know how you find the french!

x2, 20 lb is what I use for pike (spinning rod), and just tie on a 6 inch wire leader

Look for marinas and bays. Like the ones at the end of Liverpool.

thanks guys i headed out at liverpool and caught my first pike  a nice 15lb'er i have no idea what i caught it on it was 5" it was a bright orange minnow imitation with a hook on the top and a trailer trebel hook on the back. I cant seem to shake the feeling that im going too heavy for everything, cuz i was using a shimano sellus mh with a baitcaster and 60lb line same setup for salmon and bass last year
