Its looking like a possible cold pike opener, which is great if you plan on catching a few !! Might head out on the sunday, if it warms up tho, I plan on fishing for carp & maybe some ugly bullheads rofl.
That's what I'm saying ! they should regulate it from year to year, make it earlier if its warmer during spring, like at least June 15th, its not like the bass from previous years are going anywhere. And if we have a warm month, they'll probably spawn a lot anyways throughout May into early June. Down in Florida, I heard they have soo much bass down there, that they don't even have a spawning season because its warm all year long ! I wish I knew that (3 years ago) when I went to Orlando lol. :/
On the other hand, if the fish levels are low, and or if its really cold in May, then of coarse, push the opener date back.
You really don't want to catch them too early here. We have a short growing season in Ontario -not like in Florida were they feed all year. As well if you pull a bass off the nest the fry will quickly get ravished by other predators . No fry means less fish down the years. The regs are there for good reason . Tight lines
