CDN Tire sells alot of good stuff. There was a while ago when we used to call it Crappy tire, because many of the things that they sold under their own label would prematurely break, fall apart or fail. So for a long time Canadian tire products we associated with poor quality and it associated that people with a small budget would be buying that stuff because they had no other choice.
 
CDN Tire has great stuff. I'm a fairly seasoned angler and I own a vest I bought there, I'd say 90% of my lures for lake fishing are from CDN Tire, purchased all of my 7' bass rods there, Quantum, Shimano, you name it. Why would I drive all the way to Bass Pro from an hour away when I can go to my local CTC and pick up the same stuff for usually cheaper. I even purchase Mastercraft tools over other brands and have never ever had a problem, always top notch IMO. To be honest, I owned a pair of Bushline waders that I bought from Canadian Tire YEARS ago, and with my recent purchase of new gear, they got passed along to the girlfriend who still uses them to this day. Not a single leak.

I do understand what you were saying though, you'd think if they had all the cash to blow on pricy gear, then they should know what they're doing, and therefore should know to respect the sport and the fish.

Just wanted to add my two cents. Canadian Tire rocks!!

i think alot of it has to do with ppl and their lack of common sense when it comes to the physical properties and characteristics of the stuff they use, in our case here river fishing equipment. short rod= less shock absorbtion, line doesnt hold, so get out the power pro, fish doesnt bite..... break out the trebles. longer rod has softer action letting you use lighter lines and whipping 10 pound plus chrome on three pound.you can get going with a half decent noodle setup for under 100 dollars if you shop around. as for repecting fish take care when handling the little guys too i see way too many ppl ripping the hooks out of them.
 
I have noticed that on the Sat morning fishing shows, proper fish handling gets very little mention or not at all. 20 years ago when I started to tape all the shows and put them all on one vhs tape, just about every other show would show how to properly release a fish without harming it. I guess that each show displayed it so often they may have assumed that they got the message across to the public without thinking that future new anglers know the techniques. We can do only so much on our forum. It's clear more education is needed.

I still have those shows on tape too. It'll be funny to see how much weight Bob's put on, Chronzy still the same.......lol.
 
Saw a guy this morning try to kick a rainbow back into the water, ended up kicking it into the mud, then kicked it again as it was completely covered in mud back into the water. Like legitimate kick, not a nudge with his foot.

People...... :shock:
 
There's a couple of rockstars on YouTube slaying bows in one of our tribs, and treating them very poorly. Handle with care people, and if you see someone treating a fish poorly, kick them in the water, or just speak up :)
 
so far i've yet to run into guys kicking fish in a few tribs ive fished this year. I know one trib with lotta mud lazy people don't wonna get their hands dirty so they just pop the hook and kick the fish i seen it so many times.
 
I've been meaning to upload a video I stumbled across. Safe handling of fish starts from the top, or from parents down to their children.
The vid shows a small boy ice fishing an the father tells his son to step on it to remove the hook.

CJR either we were at the same trib this morning or there is too many of these idiots out there.

I do recall a similiar guy from this morning, I think he was using a spinning reel with a drag that was set pretty loose because I would hear the drag as he retireved his float from where he was drifting. Anyway I heard an abnormally loud splash after he landed a bow and I saw it trashing around in the mud/ an inch of water and finally struggle back on its own. He wasnt equipped like a newb and looked old enough to know better, I guess ignorance abounds regardless of age or economic status. I also saw a healthy (body was clean) 7 pound ish hen floating downstream half dead, no doubt released by another bright fellow who didnt care about anything other than bragging that he landed another trout.

The same spot he was standing a few days before there was a 12-13 pound brown trout hen spoliling with its belly cut open, not as bad as the picture of the gutted atlantic but still disgusting.

Its dissapointing to see stuff like this, I take my time to revive even a half spawned out male chinook, nevermind a trout. I hope that idiots like this dont ruin the fishery for future generations, I want my 8th month old daughter to share in the joy of catching trout and other fish for a long time to come.

Just needed to vent after the idiocy I witnessed in the last week at whats supposed to be one of the best tribs in ontario.
 
touching fish from cold waters in 0 degree weather makes for cold hands, i can see the advantage of beaching them then nudging them back in. but we are talking an actuall kicking motion?some ppl have very little respect for the resource.
 
lol its not about the gear brought in canadian tire and cheap stuff !! (me all my stuff is the cheapest on the market but i never treat fish like that because next generation my daughter and my son will fish in river where i fish, i saw people in credit wearing expensive stuff and they kicking the salmon back to the water one time i told the guy dont kick the salmon back to the water, they thinking because its half dead salmon they have right to kick the salmon back to the water i hope MNR catch this people and give a fine so they LEARN !!! its not a matter of gear's its about the people they dont care, and when salmon season they just cut the belly of the salmon and they throw it back to the river or in the bush. and the river will get stink its hard to breath and to fish with stinky river.
