lol its not about the gear brought in canadian tire and cheap stuff !! (me all my stuff is the cheapest on the market but i never treat fish like that because next generation my daughter and my son will fish in river where i fish, i saw people in credit wearing expensive stuff and they kicking the salmon back to the water one time i told the guy dont kick the salmon back to the water, they thinking because its half dead salmon they have right to kick the salmon back to the water i hope MNR catch this people and give a fine so they LEARN !!! its not a matter of gear's its about the people they dont care, and when salmon season they just cut the belly of the salmon and they throw it back to the river or in the bush. and the river will get stink its hard to breath and to fish with stinky river.

Totally agree. The media, PETA, SPCA will make us all look like sadistic, careless morons and try to ban the sport calling fishing an un-necessary cruelty to helpless fish. We all love to take pics of our catch (when and if we get them) point the camera to these "people" and turn them in. Make your camera a piece of your fishing gear and keep it with you all the time. That and a cell phone to report abuse.

Yah for sure it may have to get aggressive, we just need a crew of us young guys who like to throwdown to go to heavily fished spots and either scare the bastards bad enough to smarten them up, or just break there gear over our knees... Something along those lines. I'll start a topic in the spring where we all post right away when we see this kind of stuff going on, then. Game on. Imagine not being able to fish anymore. We gotta start doing something about this. If you don't like confrontation, then just make a call, if you're like me and speak your mind... Say something, if it gets heated, either deal with it or walk away. I know saying something sometimes means we have to leave our spots but if we say nothing and this kind of stuff continues then we won't have spots to fish anyways. Poaching, abuse, littering. All these things are going to lead to the demise of our sport.

making a call doesnt work last spring there were guys poaching walleyes at at a lock near our little crrek and we photo'd them, the blood on the pier, and their fishing gear sitting outside the civic they were in. and called it in. we waited there to maintain contact with the clowns for 2 hours while they slept off thier nights activities. nobody ever came...so we took thier pier net. Today at wilmot 5 european guys snagging rainbows and keeping them....all big hens. we mouthed them off a bit and they left but as we were pulling out of the car park they were coming back for the night shift. i seen the CO stand on the bridge in Oct and watch their methods of fishing and say nothing.....brother i tell you this may have to get vigillante,I AM NOT PERFECT but we have fished together a few times at the C-dub and know how it can be when the good guys are around. we fish for fun...not meat and eggs.
p.s have you seen that group of hooligans around there lately in the grey mazda pickup?

There is a time and place to speak up, and want to take further actions

Unfortumately- if you take PHYSICAL ACTION (No matter how RIGHT you may think you are or may be) ... you can be HELD:

Responsible, Liable .... and face CHARGES, FINES and IMPRISONMENT for these actions.

Is that what a "Decent Person" like you wants or deserves? (of course not)

There are POLICE, CO ... and others who are EMPOWERED to DO THIS and have the AUTHORITY!
Whether they are accomplishing the job or not is understandable as to your (Our) frustrations ...... but

WRITE YOUR POLITICIANS, JOIN groups like CRAA .......

I'm WITH YAH! just pointing out a REALITY.
You want to face ASSAULT or ENDANGERMENT or UNLAWFUL COFINEMENT or THEFT or PROPERTY DAMAGE charges?

I agree with you 100% Blair. To take this one step further, a legit fisher confronts an abuser of some sort and a little shoving ensues. One of the shovees has his foot slip on a wet riverside rock and falls hitting his head on another rock and is injured or worse. Forgetting the legal ramifications for a moment, would you want that on your conscience for the rest of your life or would you want this to happen to you and your family?

Couldn't be said any better Blair. Of course we can't go all "Deathwish" like on these morons, but a stern reminder and a phone call to the MNR or OPP, etc... could really scare the poo out of 'em. I can personally vouch for this method as I've scared many a snagger away with my iPhone camerawork

maybe thats why we dont see very much of that type of behaviour on our trib... i personnally know 3 ppl who have been charged with assault after punching out a snagger one guy actually spit in his face afterwards.... and we walk the closed stretches past the 31st looking for evil doers, clearing beaverdams and doing our own fish census work... you will not even see a gigarrette butt on the ground in many places and if there is ever any trash left behind one of the locals takes care of it. we let it be known if your an idiot your not welcome here. and for that reason we have a very good reputation with landowners and are allowed access to most private property. also our CO Mr Williams actually does his job to the best of his ability he is only one guy and cant be everywhere at once.
